Driving from Philly to DC this afternoon - this will be my soundtrack for the ride. Always happy to hear some new Krit! Perfect timing - I always seem to listen to Krit in the fall

werd.
2997174, Fie!

Glad he’s off def jam
2997203, Krit breaks down the album with NPR, track by track (swipe)

I haven't heard the album yet, checking it out this weekend. The only song I listened to was w/Cee-Lo & Sleepy, that makes 2 people that got Lo to actually rap and not just sing the hook.
2997204, yesssss. sounds great so far. lol @ making a my sub pt 4

2997223, I can’t stop playing “Layup”
Posted by DJR, Sat Oct-28-17 09:19 AM
It’s got a bit of a Bone Thugs vibe.
2997249, 2nd that
Posted by beatnik, Sat Oct-28-17 10:04 PM
I cant make it to the end of the album cuz of that one, "Mixed Messages" go in too
2997431, Man, this happens to me on every one of his albums!
Posted by DJR, Wed Nov-01-17 05:38 PM
There’s always one song I love so much on first listen that I don’t even listen to the whole album for weeks because I’m so stuck on one joint.

Hometown Hero, R4 Theme Song, 4evaNaDay, Hydroplanin, Soul Food, and now Layup.
2997268, Damn, this is what I hoped the Witchdoctor would do back in the day.
Posted by Castro, Sun Oct-29-17 07:59 PM
Sounds like its straight from the Dungeon.
2997297, Witchdoctor
Posted by The3rdOne, Mon Oct-30-17 10:24 AM
what a disappointment
2997272, Can we please start putting this guy in the "Conversations"
Posted by stone_phalanges, Sun Oct-29-17 09:38 PM
GOAT
AOTY
top 5, 10...
ETC

He has quite the catalog, and while his impact commercially and culturally doesn't really warrant GOAT status we should be talking about this guy much more.

That said I hate 1999, that song is as wack as it's namesake year in hip hop(was that the point?)

ride with me is lack luster.

other than that....It's a classic(lol)
2997317, SMH 1999 is a banger, it's a straight radio song
Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Mon Oct-30-17 07:30 PM
2997368, oxymoron
Posted by stone_phalanges, Tue Oct-31-17 08:40 AM
No such intersection exists
2997315, okay this is a fantastic album
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Mon Oct-30-17 06:56 PM
and when I say "album" I mean it's not just your usual collection of comparatively random songs. He really knows how to put together an album and serve it from beginning to end. And I also love the fact that it's not all trap and shit, and it actually gives him room to do different things with his rapping. Bury Me In Gold might be this year's best closer. The only gripe I have is that the vocals sit too far in front of the music, like I want to hear how his verses sit IN the music more, so I can't really enjoy it as much as I'd like to.
2997324, This is an album of the year contender however you slice it
Posted by Kira, Mon Oct-30-17 10:28 PM
Production is A-1 top notch.
He spitting real shit on here.
Hooks are on point, catchy, and memorable.
He doesn't rely on the Migos flow.

Why did he bleep out the artist on classic interlude?

Part two of the album is more introspective than the first one. My only gripe with the album is my selfish request for more introspection over slowed down production. It's there but not consistent enough for my personal tastes but the album is still great and goes hard.

This whole album is fuego. Are there physical CDs available because I need this in my life now. Spotify is cool but give me the physical.

KRIT has a top five hip-hop name because it's so meaning in that name. You might not understand his greatness at the moment but will because kings are remembered in time. Younger artists come back and study his material to build their foundation.
2997369, Best Buy and Amazon

2997417, I'm surprised he doesn't get more hate
Posted by stone_phalanges, Wed Nov-01-17 01:58 PM
People like to hate. This is a pretty big album, wondering if these forums are dead, or is there genuine apathy toward krit.
2997430, KRIT is an all time great to me
Posted by DJR, Wed Nov-01-17 05:28 PM
Nobody has put out more music that I like in the 10’s.
2997455, i'll hate. he still hasn't transcended his influences
Posted by bearfield, Thu Nov-02-17 01:53 PM
i made it about 2/3 of the way through the album and liked maybe 2-3 songs, and only for the instrumentals, and one of them sounded exactly like something from /aquemini/. i don't think he brings much in the way of new or interesting production or rapping. he's definitely a student of southern rap, but that's all i get from him. most of his music sounds like recreations or reinterpretations of older southern rapping and sampling. it's all very refined and the scope of the album is huge (it feels and sounds like a legendary 70s rock studio album, which is quite an achievement) but musically it's too traditional for my taste

i will say that his singing on this album is very impressive and i wouldn't be shocked if he went full throwback soul/r&b on a future project
2997462, RE: i'll hate. he still hasn't transcended his influences
Posted by stone_phalanges, Thu Nov-02-17 02:49 PM
I get that. He's more down to earth than Outkast though and I enjoy his sound more than Dungeon Family. He isn't doing anything mind-blowingly new, but I do think he's bringing a different perspective that you don't hear much in rap. It's like southern blue collar rap. Who else is doing this now, and doing it this well? Surely not Kast or DF.
2997463, would you consider Banner Southern blue collar rap?
Posted by The3rdOne, Thu Nov-02-17 03:24 PM
Not saying he fills the void for your point, but God Box was pretty 'black' in a down to earth way....to me at least
2997535, I wanted to like 'The God Box' sooooo much
Posted by stone_phalanges, Sat Nov-04-17 02:34 PM
but...

Yeah I think I might agree that it's similar to what Krit does. I just like Krit's music much much more.
2997563, Agreed.

I'm with you though, and I prefer KRIT to pretty much anything else southern aside from Kast and CL
2997465, I think this is fair and well put, actually
Posted by Stadiq, Thu Nov-02-17 03:47 PM

I just think this album is so well-done, and he pushes the envelope just enough on a few songs (like Keep the Devil Off, for instance)...for this album to be a standout.

In other words, I agree with you over all...but still enjoying the hell out of this album.

That said, I would really to start seeing him focus more on producing for other artists.

I think I read he is producing an album for Bun? More of that please.
2997446, incredible album...especially disc 2
Posted by Stadiq, Thu Nov-02-17 10:49 AM

I'm mad I copped the digital instead of the physical.

I haven't kept up with all of his stuff, kind of checked out because IMO he got too repetitive.

But this?

This is the album I kind of expected him to drop after his first 2 big mixtapes.

Not sure why he doesn't get the love that say Oddisee gets. KRIT is far more engaging and 100% less preachy.

This really delivered on the hype that seems to be growing organically. Good for him.
2997507, Probably a top 5 hip hop double album ever to me after 5+ listens
Posted by amplifya7, Fri Nov-03-17 01:36 PM
2997515, wouldn't be exactly hard to do, but I feel you
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Fri Nov-03-17 05:43 PM
2997569, This is a great album, but
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Mon Nov-06-17 09:26 AM
Being top 5 hip hop double album puts you in tall midget category.
2997621, not feeling it as much as most in here, but it's good
Posted by astralblak, Tue Nov-07-17 01:07 PM
I think stepping away from Krit's music for a couple years also let me appreciate how good he is at producing and how good of a rapper he's become, or how much he's grown, I always thought he was good on the mic.

but yeah, there are some joints on here
2997747, alright, finally moved beyond Layup to play the rest of it
Posted by DJR, Sat Nov-11-17 11:27 PM
Been playing the whole album multiple times and loving it. This is great music.

Only problem I’m having is wishing it was Devin on 1999 instead of Lloyd. How much more fun would that be?

Really liking the rapping on this and a lot of the beats and hooks hit me more after multiple listens. That Cee-Lo joint....so good.
2997749, disc1 is fire.. but i ain't feeling disc2 at all
Posted by Hellyeah, Sun Nov-12-17 06:58 AM
overall it's pretty on par with his previous projects..dude is just consistent
