2995313, Common is officially one of the greatest actors EVER

Got himself an Oscar, and now an Emmy. Gonna get that Tony soon.

P.S. this is a joke post, but for real, it's dope AF seeing my teenage musical heroes succeeding like Com and The Roots are. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagine this during the ODIAMS and Illidelph years.
2995316, guess it all made sense

2995319, Hell yes. Add this "Hollywood/industry" success to ...

... his recent uptick in activism (not that he was ever short on political activity, messages, or activism, but these prison shows/benefits he's been doing are fucking A++++++++) as well as his last album and this dude is on absolute fire.

Agree re: seeing our childhood heroes succeeding like they are. It's really amazing and great to see. And the fact that they were able to do it mostly on their terms is the best part. I'm sure there's more to it than that ultra-simplification (unseen struggles and compromises, etc.) but for the most part, at least from what we can tell, these folks have not fallen victim to the demands of the industry and instead have largely marched to the beats of their own drums to achieve success on *their* terms. That makes me really happy, assuming that I'm accurate in that general assumption.

Props to Common. Props to the Roots. Props to Kweli going the independent route. Etc. etc. etc.
2995322, it really is great to see, great post

Yeah, definitely never saw this coming even in the TFA/LWFC years when they got a good amount of radio/video exposure, let alone the DYWM/Resurrection or Illadelph/ODIWAMS years.
2995385, Rap career is over, Better off acting...

And to be fair, he's *been* spitting it's just that, at least IMO, the production was sorta lacking on Nobody Smiling.

But I wonder how many people this could go for?

Rappers have done well for themselves as acting goes. Numerous awards, from Oscars and Emmys to SAG as well as a couple of Grammys.
