they gigging together been jamming recently
and they are talking doing an EP
are you down for it or would this have been tighter back in the 90's?

I'm def down for it but it also def would've been better in the 90s. That said both artists are in the category of still dropping dope projects in recent years/their advanced ages and I'd be interested in seeing how Quik laces Scarface to fit his style. Think they would sound really dope together.

2995066, It would be worth hearing

Both are criminally underrated and still have shown moments of greatness in their later years.

Granted, like Brew mentioned, this would have been great to hear back in the early to mid 90's, it'll be cool to listen to whenever it comes out.

2995130, I'm looking forward to it, but I do question the compatibility.

Sure both are legends in their own right, but musically I don't think it makes a ton of sense. Quik's music is so breezy and Face is so brazen I'm really curious to see how they meet in the middle.

Usually when these collab projects happen the paring just makes sense, this doesn't....so I look forward to them proving me wrong.

I not saying it will be wack, but I don't know if it would be a slam dunk of a banger either.
2995150, The DJ in me makes me concerned about the BPM/speed

Scarface goes hardest on like 80-85 BPM type songs. Quik's sweet spot is 95-105 BPM, rarely ever going under 90 unless it's super smooth like "Thinkin bout u."

I can see Face on "Black Mercedes" and a few other tracks, but not many.
2995160, This interests me a lot.

Because I'm sure it's something I'd notice but not be able to describe like you did above, if that makes sense. Like I'd know something was off but not being an audiophile I wouldn't be able to put it into words.
2995161, Yea....speed is so difficult to explain as a DJ, because folks equate hi hats

and a certain type of energy as being "fast." But a DJ will get mad if someone tells them "Back that azz up" is faster than Raphael Saadiq "Get involved" or Quik "Tonite," because technically, it's much slower.

With Quik, his beats are pretty fast, but very laid back. Scarface rarely flows on faster beats, period, but if so, they usually fit his energy. Even his older songs like "Mr. Scarface" were around 97 BPM, but it's so much more aggressive than a Quik beat at 97, which would be like "We still party" or Safe and Sound which is 95 BPM.
2995178, I'm gonna listen to these songs you're talking about ...
Posted by Brew, Wed Sep-06-17 09:40 PM
... tomorrow just to see if I can pick up on what you're saying in terms of the speed of the songs. I assume to my untrained ears I'd have described them incorrectly just as you lay out above, but maybe with your descriptions in mind I'll be able to pick up on what you're talking about.
2995131, i think they will come up with some money tracks

2995137, if it's, say, 7 seconds it's a guarantee at least 2 or 3 will slap.

2995157, Interesting. Wouldn't mind another Quik and Kurupt album or ep though.
