2993131, Tyler The Creator - Flower Boy LP (7/21)
Posted by atruhead, Mon Jul-10-17 12:53 AM
I didnt like Cherry Bomb

Im only making this post because the new album leaked and man oh man.
2993138, Man oh man?
Posted by theeraser, Mon Jul-10-17 05:11 AM
2993140, Good or terrible?
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Mon Jul-10-17 05:40 AM
2993149, I skimmed and was very pleased
Posted by atruhead, Mon Jul-10-17 08:02 AM
I'd be eating humble pie quietly if it was trash, as hard as I used to go for him
2993151, RE: I skimmed and was very pleased
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Mon Jul-10-17 08:38 AM
That's what I wanted to hear. Didn't like the last album at all but loved wolf
2993152, Cherry Bomb was one of my favorites of 2015
Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Jul-10-17 08:44 AM
Behind Kendrick, Earl, and Joey.

But this so far... goddamn. Tyler back on the WOLF
2993260, I liked cherry bomb as well
Posted by illEskoBar221, Tue Jul-11-17 10:15 PM
But I can definitely see how ppl wouldn't like it
It was jarring at times and kinda all over the place
But that's what I really liked about the album
2993156, Hot Take Alert:
Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Jul-10-17 10:55 AM
Tyler is a known Pharrell disciple
but his compositions take a diarrhea-fied shit over anything his idol ever made/recorded...

be mad, Tyler the Gohan of this shit
2993290, His music gets better with every release
Posted by cbk, Wed Jul-12-17 11:06 AM
The chords. The lush-ness. Yeah, he's making some really beautiful music.

P developed into a great pop song maker. Can Tyler make a "Happy"??? Perhaps. I'd like to see him do it.

2993748, Damn....
Posted by Abraheezee, Tue Jul-25-17 01:35 PM
This is a hot take, but I agree 100% with it.

The man is a master student, and the more he learns, the richer his sound becomes. When I saw him do that Roy Ayers collab on the last album, I was thinking "Maaaan, I hope he continues forward in this same direction!!"

2993161, Already sounding like one of his strongest releases to date nm

2993163, so tyler is gay/bi?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Jul-10-17 11:40 AM
because that's all im seeing on the social medias about this album. not much talk on how the music is.
2993166, "flower boy"
Posted by dula dibiasi, Mon Jul-10-17 12:12 PM
lolz

good for him tho (if true)
2993176, I havent heard the song yet
Posted by atruhead, Mon Jul-10-17 02:50 PM
but he's also acted out the roles of rapist/drug dealer and school shooter on albums
2993185, yup
Posted by astralblak, Mon Jul-10-17 05:20 PM
.
2993188, some of the harmonizing I'm assuming by him on some joints
Posted by High Society, Mon Jul-10-17 06:54 PM
is surprising the hell outta me.
his voice is so deep. He's worked on his range vocally.

and after a skim thru - some pretty stuff on here as usual
with him. We know Pharrell is his hero, so gonna get some of that
bright, warm colored melodic stuff.

I'm liking it.

Haven't gotten into the lyrics all that much yet.
Just the music.

Tyler matures with each album. I think I'll like his albums more and more
as he continues to get older and mature.

That's odd to say for someone like myself who is getting older
and liking less hiphop releases the last few years.

don't know about the bi stuff. didn't listen for it, wouldn't care if was.
The cat is a talented musician who cares about music, his music,
and that's what I care about, the music.
2993191, this shit is dope
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Mon Jul-10-17 07:35 PM
his subject matter hasn't changed but the beats and flows are great
2993236, I disagree....he's toned it down considerably
Posted by DVS, Tue Jul-11-17 01:23 PM
there isn't much cringe worthy material here. More introspective if anything...no more misogynistic than the average hip hop release.

Seems like he realized the shock value shit was deading an entire demographic

That's pretty much true for most of that Odd Future camp, no?
2993263, I'm no OF expert but not all of them were shock value cats huh?
Posted by High Society, Tue Jul-11-17 10:50 PM
is it Hodgy that's a pretty good just straight spittin' hiphop cat?

Earl of course, when wants to rap - I've never heard
the "illmatic" of OF releases - his debut or whatever.
Wasn't his first offering before they signed the distro deal
supposedly like the millennial Illmatic or some shit and then
his mother made him disappear or something? I dunno.

But thinking about Sweatshirt... I'm remembering he has an album
that features Vince Staples heavily, huh?

I effing love Big Fish Theory so I need to go find that Sweatshirt album
that has Vince on it.

I could be babbling all over this reply lol... who knows.
2993282, Earl/Vince - "Wool" is still my shit.
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Wed Jul-12-17 10:20 AM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdpym_4f7mo
2993316, so I was wrong and he doesn't have an album w/ Vince all over it lol
Posted by High Society, Wed Jul-12-17 06:16 PM
but they do have a couple tracks together
and I just discovered that Staples has an EP produced by Mac Miller
with features that include Mac, Schoolboy Q, Ab, and a few others.

So I'll have to check that out at some point.
and revisit the NoID Vince album because I love Big Fish Theory so much.
2993657, you right

2993656, y'all are right
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Fri Jul-21-17 11:16 PM
i don't know how i forgot about all the rape raps
he's been introspective all along though
he continues to talk about being different but still makes it enjoyable
2993251, this is fucking flames. i aint got time >>>
Posted by Madvillain 626, Tue Jul-11-17 08:42 PM
also loving see you again, boredom, 911/Mr Lonely, and November. this is a summer album thru and thru
2993261, Droppin seeds Is so damn dope
Posted by illEskoBar221, Tue Jul-11-17 10:19 PM
Dropping seeds has that "find your wings" feel.
Damn these chords throughout the album are crazy

I like every song so far I'll develop favorites
Soon but I'm feeling the vibe of this album

I'd like to hear a Tyler x Kali Uchis ep
2993264, I love that joint too.
Posted by High Society, Tue Jul-11-17 10:53 PM
I think Tyler is extremely talented.
Am I crazy to say I'd like to hear a Wayne project exec produced
and entirely produced by Tyler?
2993311, Yo I'm with you 100%
Posted by illEskoBar221, Wed Jul-12-17 03:26 PM
i think that would be a great idea.
Seems like 2017 Wayne would be a lot
More interesting over some differently production
2993276, what's amazing to me is how Tyler gets these GOOD features from Wayne
Posted by Dr Claw, Wed Jul-12-17 08:52 AM
I really didn't like how he sounded rapping on The Carter IV

but on the last 2 Tyler albums he's gotten "classic" Wayne (from like the Katrina era)
2993313, Everything about "smuckers" on cherry bomb was dope
Posted by illEskoBar221, Wed Jul-12-17 03:29 PM
The back and forth verse Wayne and Tyler did
Was crazy and yeah I agree it's weird
But I guess he gives run of the mill verses
On standard production he needs to be challenged or
Pushed by good production.
2993750, and a love of skateboarding
Posted by Abraheezee, Tue Jul-25-17 01:51 PM
Sounds weird, but I feel that has something to do with it.

Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Wed Jul-12-17 08:04 AM
I'm trying to preorder and it looks like he's releasing two different covers. Can't tell if one has bonus cuts or not. What's the difference?

Flower Boy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PX63FQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-4Hzzb7FWBKAK
2993317, doesn't look like one has bonus cuts or anything
Posted by High Society, Wed Jul-12-17 06:35 PM
the Bee only one... maybe that's a TAPE?
has side A / side B?
Tape culture is coming back.

I think the one with Tyler on it is the CD and probably the vinyl when it comes out.
2993337, one listen. so damn good. prob his best
Posted by astralblak, Thu Jul-13-17 02:09 PM
love how he's changed the content

and the vibes... wow...

like some Neptunes meets G Funk channeling Roy Ayers Cali vibes windows down on the PCH wave.

Ah shit, now I must listen to this on my way home from work. Every detail above had me going DING! then DING! then DING AGAIN! like Hector Salamanca from Breaking Bad sitting in his wheelchair ringing that bell over and over...haha

Posted by Adwhizz, Fri Jul-21-17 07:59 AM
Got about 12 tracks in on the way to work.

Tyler's pen game leveled up.

Seems more mature and at that phase where he doesn't get to hang out with his childhood friends as much for various reasons (Potholes) probably won't help with that)

The instrumentals are beautiful although most of what I heard are the same tempo, could use some more lively tracks.
2993626, Yeah, this is miles ahead of Cherry Bomb
Posted by Marauder21, Fri Jul-21-17 10:23 AM
Still on my first lesson, but I could see this maybe having more replay value than Wolf did, too. He's really grown in all of the best ways.
2993632, Tyler's such an underrated producer....
Posted by rorschach, Fri Jul-21-17 11:04 AM
The beats on this album are so bright and sunny. He's not just doing his version of the Neptunes sound anymore.

And what kind of synth is that on Who Dat Boy (the queasy sounding one during Rocky's verse)?
2993634, Who Dat Boy could be a radio hit
Posted by double negative, Fri Jul-21-17 11:53 AM
this album is dope, I'm legit surprised
2993646, ever been interested in his music?
Posted by High Society, Fri Jul-21-17 07:36 PM
I didn't get him into him till Wolf.
I needed him to actually age lol.
26 I think now... his content is starting to catch up to cats
who would appreciate the musicality and talent he has.
2993723, always been a fan. i still play goblin
Posted by double negative, Mon Jul-24-17 03:09 PM
his lyrical content has always been meh to me but I like this album
2993735, yeah that's my thing...
Posted by High Society, Mon Jul-24-17 10:57 PM
I was always kinda on the edge and didn't really get it till WOLF.
But as he gets older, he's 26 I think I read?
His content is maturing and catching up or at least closing the gap
to a 33 yr old me...

2993667, its his first song to chart on billboard
Posted by illEskoBar221, Sat Jul-22-17 05:26 PM
2993653, dope. as. fuck
Posted by Kosa12, Fri Jul-21-17 09:49 PM
my god, one of the best things I've heard all year

his best album easily
2993654, I don't skip a single song
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Fri Jul-21-17 10:24 PM
This dude loves Chad & P. Loving the production on this album.
2993658, man this shit is flames
Posted by Ashy Achilles, Fri Jul-21-17 11:21 PM
ditto all the comments about the chords/harmonies
2993659, It's his strongest release
Posted by mrshow, Fri Jul-21-17 11:48 PM
He perfectly synthesized his influences production-wise on this one. The rapping is his strongest in years too.
2993660, yup
