Totally digging this new album El Gran Poder from Lagartijeando. I don't really know what to call the music represented here - interesting combination of electronic and live instrumentation, beat-oriented with an explicit connection to popular Latin American musical forms and rhythms. Really cool guitar work throughout. Lots of off-kilter rhythms, unexpected details and layers, and just all around variety. Occasional vocals. At times reminds me of Bonobo but just hints here and there in the way he develops his stuff. Good chill outside soundtrack for the holiday weekend maybe?

Couple tracks:

"Antofagasta de la Sierra" - the guitar work is just light and lovely. love the way the tone of the track starts to really change around 1:30, the scattered guitar parts and drums falling away to almost silence at one point

"Chukisaka Sublow" - longer track, this goes through all sorts of subtle changes - polyrhythms that resolve clearly only to scatter again, mantra-like vocals sped and slowed that come and go, and a clearing of it all near the end of the track that is just right.
