The instrumental of Link Up and Suede are on the physical release

Posted by Johnny, Wed Oct-19-16 05:28 PM
thanks for answering

yes I know those instrumentals are available but I want the one for droogs, which didn't have an instrumental.

I was hoping someone heard it on one of knxxledge's numerous bandcamp releases
that beat is insane

2975415, if record labels are going to do these exclusive releases...
Posted by mashpg89, Fri Oct-14-16 12:14 AM
the least they can do is release digital downloads at the same time to people who actually paid for physical copies.

they got me pirating an album that i paid for so i can listen to it at the same time as people who didn't, makes no sense.

haven't listened to it yet, but AOTY.
2975416, This might've been a fuck up on Apple's part
Posted by mrshow, Fri Oct-14-16 12:29 AM
I think they accidentally put it up and Stones Throw said "fuck it."
2975442, then ST should say "fuck it" and reward their paying fans
Posted by mashpg89, Fri Oct-14-16 11:08 AM
sick of this exclusivity game and in my opinion it makes illegal downloads more likely/understandable.

2975911, For some reason, I disliked what little
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Oct-21-16 08:31 AM
I heard from Paak in the past. I listened to an illegal download for this project last night and this morning before work and I now see the light. I'm excited to go scoop up the vinyl for this tomorrow. Hopefully I can find a store here in NYC that has Malibu as well.

Theses two blend so well since Knxledge's lo-fi bass laden beats perfectly meshy with Paak's high pitched raspy delivery. I wonder how long it too for them to record this.
2975920, just curious what you had listened to before?
Posted by makaveli, Fri Oct-21-16 09:48 AM
Malibu? Venice?
2975922, Probably snippets from Venice, I don't remember to be honest.
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Oct-21-16 09:53 AM
I do know I love how well Knwx and Paak meld perfectly together. The project feels like a breath of fresh air.

Keep in mind I don't listen to R&B too tough and I normally don't like high pitch vocals from male singers/rappers in general, so that is probably why I was hesitant towards Paak initially. The bass in Knwx's tracks helps to ground Paak's voice on this project, if that makes sense.
2975929, both albums are worth a real listen
Posted by makaveli, Fri Oct-21-16 10:31 AM
Malibu is great imo. I get how people don't like this voice but it doesn't bother me.
2976051, No Worries is a lot more focused compared to Malibu
Posted by Numba_33, Sun Oct-23-16 11:39 AM
which shouldn't be a surprise since it's only one producer on it versus the five or so on Malibu. I am glad I scooped up Malibu since the sample from Without You introduced me to Hiatus Kiayote. Feels like I've been under a rock just now hearing about that group, but I suppose that's for another post altogether. The only fault I have with No Worries is that some songs feel more complete than others, but damn if this album doesn't flow flawlessly together.
2976015, U prolly (like me) prefer his sound over
Posted by SP1200, Sat Oct-22-16 03:32 PM
more traditional and dirty hiphop beats. I did like his other albums
tho.
2976341, yes
Posted by infin8, Wed Oct-26-16 02:27 PM
I dont like that clean $hit. although he's a vocalist, I feel his roots are more hip-hop and that shoulda been the lane..but hey.
2976578, I'm with you on that.
Posted by SP1200, Mon Oct-31-16 12:40 AM
Malibu isn't super clean tho, but not dirty with record crackles in

If I'm not mistaken, the majority of the samples for this weren't cleared.

Assuming that the samples for this weren't cleared, how much of a risk are these two from getting ganked from the original folks that got sampled?
2976247, the title track is my theme song right now....

2976347, but hits only the chorus on 1 of his songs though...

"Get Bigger"
"Khadijah"
"Lyk Dis"
"Wngs"
"Link Up"

i fuck with heavy, "Suede" has already been played out, and why was "can't stop" only a instro-lude

Loved Malibu and Venice along with a ton of his collabos/guest spots the past 12-18 months and I know he's not the "cleanest" language-wise, but for some reason here it really stuck out with all the bitch(es), nigga, f*cks, etc. Just came off as lazy on his part.

I guess it's arbitrary on my part to feel like 2 or 3 bitches would be ok but 4 or more is just too much haha, but it has me looking forward to an instrumental release of this album.

Just on this point, specifically, I remember that he said that on this album he was basically playing an exaggerated version of himself and might explain why he's being a bit more outlandish and pimpish on this than Malibu.

Peace,

Knx's production continues to grow. He's hit a stride since HUD Dreems. I hope there will be instros but I doubt it. So many bangers.

Paak is the one w the lackluster performance. Some of his melodies/pockets are ill but for the vast majority of the record the pimp talk was not well delivered, for my taste. when you try the tongue in cheek mysoginy angle and miss, it often looks like a pretty egregious strike out.

2 songs on each side.
