New sub-genres appear.
Having the high hats and fills be twice as fast (or more) as the beat's tempo is NOT boom-bap. Not an evolution of it.
It's that southern / trap influence.
Also I associate boom-bap with sampled drums or drum machine sounds that sound like sampled drums -- and not electronic drum sounds.
Boom-bap is faster the examples you posted from Drake. Drake is usually slower - except for fills and hi-hats - but SFTB is faster - so maybe that's why you're thinking it's boom-bap-ish.
I think Joey Bada$$ is what boom-bap is today.
We can agree on this: its still music.
