hadn't yet shed the label of being a "backpack rapper"

'Blk On Blk Sides' was a great cd and when he began to emerge as a rap star because he demonstrated a creative side that ppl didn't necessarily get to see from him in 'Blk Star'

But

You have a short memory if you're saying Mos Def and Guru(?) occupied a larger space in HipHop as an MC than Lauryn Hill in 1998

She could do no wrong during that time - she had critical and commercial success w/'Miseducation'

Talib Kweli and Nas both said she was the 'greatest MC'

I love Guru but he wasn't f'ing w/Lauryn or DMX in 98

I'd at least give a nod to Common as the BEST MC in 98 before Mos and definitely Guru
