I realize he probably doesn't belong on the list of established figureheads. And putting him up against the usual suspects of jazz drumming probably seems weird to everyone else. I'm sure he didn't have the impact and technical ability of the commonly recognized greats....But to my ears....he is just so incredibly unique and stylistic. In anycase....he's my fave. Keeping in mind that a personal fave is different than saying 'all time best'....I still wanted to throw his name in here.
