man listen...

i love lauryn &

whoever is doing that baseline with their voice is kinda incredible!
2897627, She's really channeling Stevie here

2897641, it's not channeling when you use the whole melody

i think that it's a good sketch but that aspect is actually bothersome to me because the stevie melody gives me a completely different vibe than what she's trying to convey.

2897661, This song is a lil old...not a dedication so to speak...
Posted by ChampD1012, Thu Aug-21-14 09:51 AM
she was performing it when she was touring with Nas...it's from her album that we will probably never see...
2897666, I know... it was released in response to the violence.

I can dedicate a song from the '20's to someone... don't matter how old a dedication is, lol.
2897690, was it released in response?

or is it being conveniently re-exposed because of the current circumstance?

either way, the title of this post IS a little misleading

it implies that HILL (or her people) made/dedicated this when that doesn't seem to be the actual case

either way, its a good song and timely

2897709, Yes

Unless I'm wrong and she already released it before. All I know is that she performed
it before... but didn't actually release the track for consumption.

Um... actually it only implies that it's dedicated... which it is:
"An old sketch of Black Rage, done in my living room. Strange, the course of
things. Peace for MO."

Perhaps I could have said "dedicated to MO"... just figured "Mike Brown"
would be more recognizable

>either way, its a good song and timely

Yep Yep
2897721, WE NEED HER, WHETHER WE KNOW IT OR NO

Lauryn has managed to survive the litany of her detractors, doubters, and obvious copycats.

Life has a way of zapping the life's blood of creativity from you, but she's still here, and it's marvelous in my ears.

I would get a lil' more geeked if there were at least three or four radio joints to nod to, but this'll have to do.

Love ya Ms. Hill!
