2947560, I know UTQC at 1 is hard to fathom Posted by High Society, Sat Oct-17-15 02:02 AM
was def not considered his best work by critics when released. Nor is it the album that makes people say, "OH!! (insert album)" when talking FlyLo.
It probably sits what ya think? 4th? (CosmoG, You're Dead!/LA or LA/You're Dead!) if polled.
While I don't think the songs are correctly sequenced and I wished he would've done something different w/ Erykah, I just love the overall mood of the album. The sounds, the textures... The vocal appearances from regulars like Nikki and Laura. The vibe gets me every time whenever I put it on.
me yesterday//corded is probably my favorite FlyLo song as well.
1983 is like his Organix to me. Yes, both debut albums but some times don't even get mentioned as being the debut. I've read multiple articles on websites, maybe even in a magazine or two where they've said LA is his debut - not just on Warp, but in general. And I know plenty people that have never heard Organix - or think DYWM?! is The Roots' debut.
Plus 1983 is just eh. a lot of it sounds the same to me.
I kinda feel like FlyLo is the electronic version of electric Miles. Their discogs are similar but in reverse:
LA = On the Corner CosmoG = Bitches Brew UTQC = In a Silent Way
You're Dead I don't put in that analogy though. You're Dead is more Soft Machine, Weather Report, King Crimson imo.
