2861057, The Abstract & The Dragon only has 2 new songs
Posted by isaaaa, Thu Dec-12-13 08:08 AM
I keep thinking there is something wrong with my copy, but out of the 28 tracks, only "Butch & Sundance" and "The Abstract & The Dragon" are the only new tracks.

The rest are the intro (great track), skits and remixes everyone on OKP probably already has.

What was the point of this project?

Make them aware of their history. They have new fans through their connections with Ye and Wayne. It's not for us old, snobby ass niggas.
2861060, HAHAHA! FOH, they both over 40.

They need to focus on those age 31+ dollars.

they'll be broke because we ain't buying shit.
2861071, I don't know tho

Considering mixtapes in 2013 are the definitive statement of a rapper's worth (ie, the audience will let you slide if the album's mediocre)...putting out 20 year old tracks probably isn't the best way to winning over a new crowd...they already had access to them anyway.

Considering they are both still VERY solid MC's, ten new songs, even over other peoples tracks*, would have served better then 25 old ones.

I feel like I got on line for the new playstation/xbox and they just hit me with the 1998 OG joints :(

*Particularly since 90's production has made a comeback. Imagine them over Fraud's beats. Or tackling more soulful trap like what Tree is doing.

2861063, Uh yeah I'm good on this.

2861072, Wow, thanks for saving me the disappointment

2861073, thats some lazy ass shit on their part... would 10 songs be so hard??
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Thu Dec-12-13 10:24 AM
2861084, even known beats with at least a verse from both...
Posted by QBoogie, Thu Dec-12-13 11:15 AM
... would have sufficed. I d/l it but am already disappointed with a lack of new material. Additionally I hope the skits I see on the track listing show some promise.
2861091, name a rapper that ain't lazy

2861083, fun throwback to the old order
Posted by Nodima, Thu Dec-12-13 11:15 AM
the new tracks (there's gotta be more than two, I know that ELE snippet isn't floating around right?) blend effortlessly into the old ones which is always a neat trick old school mixtapes could play on listeners, nice to see them pull that off here. and then being a little younger there's cuts I never heard like the remixes (I really wished Lil Wayne had put Ren Rap on one of his tapes so I could have a copy but he never did), or stuff I don't remember well like Come on Down, Wild Hot, the J Dilla remixes, the original Scenario...

I'd say it's a really good mixtape if you weren't expecting something by 2013 struggle rap standards, ie. an album.

2861113, that title track is fire... wish Phife was on that beat
Posted by rjc27, Thu Dec-12-13 01:11 PM
at first I was mad about lack of new tracks... but two new free tracks from tip/busta when qtip releases like 2 new songs per year tops is still dope imo, plus the cover art is sick

@rob_starrk
2861117, THE POINT OF THE PROJECT…
Posted by antoniovaladez, Thu Dec-12-13 01:18 PM
was to create discussion and excitement for these two brands (Busta and Q TIp) to be
relevant in conversation and in music. And it worked! The fact that you posted this puts their names into people's mouths and on the OKP! People got excited! People shared on social media! Hash tag's and all. At one point can we all realize that we are a part of a strategy and marketing campaign? You got two new songs and a bunch of other stuff for free.. It's a new era of music and these two legends get it and are adjusting to the new game.

Your thoughts?
2861121, We got duped once, ain't gonna happen again

Posted by antoniovaladez, Thu Dec-12-13 04:10 PM
my bad. just trying to be objective..
what was i thinking?!

2861135, Relevant for what? 2 days?
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Thu Dec-12-13 02:45 PM
2861154, 2 days > 0 days
Posted by antoniovaladez, Thu Dec-12-13 04:09 PM
...
2861644, LOL. Yes, because OKP rarely, if ever, discusses Q-Tip or Busta Rhymes
Posted by mrhood75, Sun Dec-15-13 10:49 PM
Truly, both were completely forgotten and cast aside by OKP before the announcement of this mixtape.
2861698, sigh…..
Posted by antoniovaladez, Mon Dec-16-13 12:02 PM
No one said they were forgotten on OKP. That was not even my point.
The point is to extend the conversation. Extend their names in our mouths.
It's brand strategy 101.
2861130, They would've had more impact with a 5 song EP
Posted by phemom, Thu Dec-12-13 02:23 PM
Add a verse from Phife, Wayne & Ye' and both the over & under 30 crowd would have been hype. I'm not upset tho, I knew this was gonna happen from jump....

Can't wait for more Q-Tip verses.....however we get them lol
2861144, no phife verses n/m
Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Thu Dec-12-13 03:29 PM
2861146, we knew it only had a few OG tracks
Posted by , Thu Dec-12-13 03:33 PM
I read it here a week ago somewhere. Fuck it, i might have all these songs, but now I have them all at once.

I ain't mad at all, been nice to listen to this mix, and with a few new songs to boot.

werd.
2861201, how much did you pay for the shit again?

Posted by philpot, Fri Dec-13-13 09:25 AM
2861381, whats worse "new monthly de la songs" or "new Bus/Tip album"
Posted by My_SP1200_Broken_Again, Fri Dec-13-13 10:13 PM
...because between these two non events, we ended up with 3 total new native tongue joints for a year ...should have been much more
2861464, Ya, off topic, but on that De La
Posted by quikfit, Sat Dec-14-13 07:11 PM
Definitely HUGE disappointment.
They pushed that idea hard at the top of the year - twitter, interview in Rolling Stone. Seems line the tracks should have been lined up, ready to go.
I was really looking forward to that.
Don't get me wrong, the track was good and they got my iTunes money, but wanted more!
2861442, I think it serves as a really good anthology.

2861568, those mofos aint have no outtakes??
Posted by revolution75, Sun Dec-15-13 05:49 PM
when was the last busta record???

and qtip has been working on this zulu record for how long???

aint mo more throwaway dilla beats to rap over???

where's the kanye tracks that tip was working on????

hell rhyme over all those songs he was working on between kamaal and renaissance

.....and.....introducing to a younger audience? FOH!! They dropped the ball (well tip has) by waiting so long to drop music...ask me and I'll tip was neck and neck with 3000 (in '02-'03) as far as transcending hip hop and messed his thang up by being a so-called perfectionist aka a wussie frady cat!!!

moral of the story...y'all should focus on your already established and quite large FANbase!!!!!!!

two years ago

I'm not sure what that has to do with them doing a mixtape of performances together

from what I gather Busta has a few hundred and ?uest has, per his admission, about a thousand that nobody will ever get to hear

I don't want to hear Tip over Kaney's weak ass drums, keep that shit where it is

Tip, going to back to Tribe, was known to not have much superfluous material
we've heard pretty much all they've done for the most part, it's not a Pac situation where he recorded so much that a lot of it ended up on the floor due to bad quality and got pushed out later

And you are entitled to yours

If you dig it...go ahead but it's not my thing

And I have the right to express that in this post

Just like you can express yours

I expected a lot more from these dudes and I was let down

Yes...let down from a mixtape because I FEEL like anyone could have done this

2861599, of course you can have your opinion
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Sun Dec-15-13 07:29 PM
but I think you had a little more invested in this mixtape than was promised
I got more than I bargained for, actually
2861603, I did ...
Posted by revolution75, Sun Dec-15-13 07:45 PM
it was the video that threw me off
And the tip promotion.
I was thinking they were gonna rock over some tip beats without worrying about sample clearance issues
Which would have been great!!

It's all good though..
2861607, I really hope Busta keeps true to his word
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Sun Dec-15-13 07:57 PM
about getting back to real boom bap stuff on ELE II, we may get a lot of that sort of thing if he keeps it tight like that
