2860840, Most slept on Bay Area albums?
Posted by justin_scott, Wed Dec-11-13 03:52 AM
I'm looking for stuff not released by too short, e-40, heiro, etc, but stuff like mac dre, keak, mac mall, mista fab, etc etc

What was the best of those artists, or artists in that same vein?

Their DJ is a friend of mine.

Way more East Coast sounding though.

Yes.

My favorite from them; however, I felt it was a bit too long.. The first 2/3 is what got the most play from me.
2860893, Slept on in the Bay itself or slept on in other places?

2860958, either, as long as its bay area related

Thanks for mentioning that one.

The Coup-"Steal This Album"
Paris-"The Devil Made Me Do It"
Spice 1-Spice 1
Ant Banks-"Sittin' On Somethin' Phat"
Moe Green-"I Just Want You To Hear My Voice"
Locksmith-"The Green Box"

2861013, 4080 if i remember correctly used to drop a few of these
Posted by Playa_Politician, Wed Dec-11-13 09:34 PM
i've been searching for a mixtape i used to have, think it was 4080 but could've been a KMEL Chuy Gomez mix. this reminds me of it a bit.
2861040, I was writing/working for them when they working on their first two
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Dec-12-13 12:28 AM
Their first one was Bay Area's Greatest Hits and vol. 2 was."Bay Luv.". They did third one was after I left. Those were interesting times.

There were other interesting comps around then: "Million Dollar Dream: High Powered" and "Southwest Riders".

2861027, Thanks to everyone so far nm

i love that album

His "solo" album (really just an updated DU LP) was slept on everywhere.. especially in the bay.

"Fear of a Mixed Planet"

Has many of the usual players. Probably the best DU-related release post-Pac.
2861483, Co-sign on Shock's Solo being underrated
Posted by Abstract_TheEclectic_Nubian, Sat Dec-14-13 11:04 PM
but I can't get with you on it being the best "post Pac" release. You say that as if Pac ever even had a major role in DU. Saafir had more DU verses than Pac and he never even claimed to be IN DU.

MC Twist & The Def Squad - Coming Thru Like Warriors
APG Crew - On the Rise
MC Ant ‎– MC Ant The Great
Pooh Man (MC Pooh) - As Funky As I Wanna Be
2861148, Can't forget one of personal faves..
Posted by Original Juice, Thu Dec-12-13 03:40 PM
Z-Man - Dope or Dogfood. Mostly produced by Premier's production partner, MoSS. Such a great album. Perfect mixture of traditional bboy/boom bap aesthetics with bay area slang and vocal inflections with a healthy dose of humor and fun.

His latest (California Brainwashed) kinda functions as an unofficial sequel (although the production is more on that west coast mob/slump sound, but mostly uptempo). This is very good as well, but Dope or Dogfood imo is his best.

His old tour EP (Anti-Nerd) is really good, too.
2861199, Z-Man is dope
Posted by Playa_Politician, Thu Dec-12-13 07:14 PM
seen him a few times live. Dope or Dog Food is a personal fav. I doubt i know anyone else that knows that album exists.

Rasco and Planet Asia.
Dope beats.
Dope rhymes.
Here's JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE, from that album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj6tf2S1bH0
DOPE

2861479, Planet Asia's not really "Bay Area" though. He's from Fresno
Posted by mrhood75, Sat Dec-14-13 10:25 PM
That was the reason I didn't list it. Still a dope album.
2861484, But Rasco is from San Fran
Posted by Abstract_TheEclectic_Nubian, Sat Dec-14-13 11:07 PM
and Im almost positive it was recorded in the bay, so technically it is a Bay area album.
2862438, i've heard rasco's time waits for no man
Posted by justin_scott, Thu Dec-19-13 08:31 PM
and i've heard of cali agents, but never heard anything from the two of them, until now. this how the west was one album is nice. the beats are slightly repetitive, but not bad (esp loving the scratches) and lyrically it's dope. would definitely listen to this again.
2861481, Prince Ali- Curb Side Service
Posted by Abstract_TheEclectic_Nubian, Sat Dec-14-13 10:54 PM
Dope album from top to bottom. Anyone know what happened to the guy? After that album he just disappeared. I thought he fit right in with the rest of the Heiro cats.

Edit: didn't see your non heiro affiliate statement, but I still think its one of the best Bay area albums I've heard.
