A for effort.
A for execution, too.

i just wish he could be funny again.
I'll probably cop the album though.
2835932, Wow not what I expected from the snippets.
Posted by cbk, Mon Aug-26-13 10:39 PM
He's yelling, taunting, sweet talking, etc.

The track has more...stuff in it that I would've guessed.

Not mad at the song overall.

And it has me curious about the rest of the LP. So i guess it worked.

2835937, Oh hell naaaaaaaah. But I guess he's having fun *shrugs*
Posted by gritty, Mon Aug-26-13 10:46 PM
But I'm good with his studio albums from 99' to 02' shit.

exactly...it's his usual BS...yet this guy is hailed as a great, just don't get the appeal...Aren't even the white 14 year old boys in the burbs grown up now?
2835953, It's super average, but I can see the album having some bangers

Neither of them even go out or really know what the fuck is going on anymore & are likely too rich to care.

Posted by mrshow, Tue Aug-27-13 03:34 AM
If anybody could get a good album out of Em, it's him.
2836085, Why Em & ALC haven't done more work is strange
Posted by quikfit, Tue Aug-27-13 09:16 AM
As his touring DJ, seems like Em would be inclined to listen to & get on some Alchemist beats.
Would it sell to the masses? Sure, it's Em.
Would it sell to the underground/"real heads"? Sure, it's ALC beats, and Em spittin.
I'd be more interested then this Rubin/Dre Exc Prod album.
I'm sure Al could air the weed out the studio for Em to come through.
2836231, ALC spoke on that on a Juan Epstein episode.
Posted by MISTA MONOTONE, Tue Aug-27-13 02:29 PM
can't remember specifics, but he didn't think Em was really messing with his beats as is. he said something along the lines of his beats would have to be altered to be Shadyish.

...which is SO not the reason we want ALC to produce him.

so yeah. it may never happen.
2836239, Fair enough
Posted by quikfit, Tue Aug-27-13 02:44 PM
I mean, I "get" why it hasn't really happened. The only track I can think of with the two together is that Chemical Warfare track, and even then I think it was just one verse, minute long or so.
Seems like if they had done 5 tracks it'd be great, but I'm thinking that time has passed.
2836290, that's somebody needs to stand up to Em
Posted by Menphyel7, Tue Aug-27-13 04:26 PM
Big Sean told the truth in that C tha God inside your head thing "if Em made some wack shit would you tell him?...Big sean said "NO".

Like EM work with good producers on REcovery and he made them sound like EM..WTF. Somebody needs to tell him to sit down and rap well over these beats and shut up this will work.
2836710, Basically ALC's production is to hip hop and hardcore for Em........

not bad, but not great either. if the album has better songs, i could defintely listen to this and not skip it, but i wouldn't go out of my way to play this more than i already have.

2836023, Tht's about it.
Posted by denny, Tue Aug-27-13 05:35 AM
One of the greatest artists of our times. And we're reluctant to appreciate him. This board's discussions of Eminem are atrocious. Best pop star in the world...dude should be an effing icon here. But no. Cause the nerds gotta have their day by being above him.

There is a thing called popular art. Eminem is a MASTER at it. Define yourselves as you will.
2836025, if you want to make him your new god, go ahead
Posted by justin_scott, Tue Aug-27-13 06:02 AM
but if you come with a song that's not unequivical greatness, some people won't care for it. and this song is by no means great. no one here can say it's anywhere near eminem's best stuff.
2836027, One of the greatest American lyricists of all time
Posted by denny, Tue Aug-27-13 06:13 AM
The depth of content....the variety of accents....the dynamics of shouting....the wonderfully melodic choruses.

Eminem is one of the greatest pop artists of all time. Far and beyond the singular greatest pop artist of the 00's. He's like the Oscar Wilde of our times. But nevermind.....he was so much better when he rapped 'infinite'.
2836033, ok now i don't know if you're joking or not...

I tried listening to this song 3 times. Can't. It is the audio equivalent of a headache. They should have turned up the enjoyable.

I'm sure there's some funny shit in the lyrics. I'll have to read them some time.

2836032, i think you're simplifying it too much...
Posted by DonWonJusuton, Tue Aug-27-13 06:51 AM
"one of the greatest artists of our times"? hmmmmmmmm... i'll give you one of the greatest rhymers of ANY time (if not THE greatest rhymer ever)..

"best pop star in the world"?? hell no.. i'd put someone like Rihanna above him easily.. and there are probably more... in terms of his greatest pop moments i'd say - "My Name Is," "Guilty Conscience," "The Real Slim Shady," "Stan," "Lose Yourself," "Forgot About Dre," and maybe "Superman"... his stint all over MTV and 8 Mile.. "discovering" 50 Cent.... and that's really it (you can throw the Rihanna song in there, but that was more Rihanna than Em.. and i think that song blows)...

dude was a master at controversy (take the word "fag" out of his vocabulary and a vivid track of him killing his wife and see how much press MMLP gets)... and a master at MC'ing... but master at making popular art? i'm a really big fan and i'm not close to agreeing with that.. i honestly think his *popularity* is based on 5 things: 1. he's white, 2. he's white, 3. he's white, 4. he had the right cosign(s) at the right time (Dre & MTV), 5. real fans of hip hop can't deny his MC'ing ability, despite all of the zany stuff that no one would bump in their cars.. (lol as big of a fan as i am, i STILL laugh when i hear someone bumping eminem in the whip)

and in terms of albums.. i'd say MMLP is the only one that holds up in my book.. SSLP is still entertaining in spots, but not well-crafted as a whole project.. Eminem Show was cool at the time (high school for me), but "Cleaning Out My Closet," "Sing for the moment," "Square dance," "Hailie's Song" and about half of the album just doesn't hold up.. Encore isn't as bad as a lot of ppl say (imo), but i count 6 tracks i fuck with and 3 of those are bonus tracks... i'm still in love with Relapse, but that is NOT a pop (or popular) album, it's strictly for the rhyme aficionados and ppl who don't know hip hop, but would follow Em over a cliff... Recovery? i would've rather got a bag of actual shit in the mail.

i think his career, accomplishments and talent are obviously top tier.. but the material is a different story.. and i think it's realllllly easy to see why a lot of people don't like him (even though he easily makes it into my personal top 10)..
2836062, Yeah I don't mind it
Posted by CMcMurtry, Tue Aug-27-13 08:31 AM
At least he's not doing the awful Alex The Kid produced love ballads anymore.
2836063, Give it time. This is just the first released song.

Nah, toeachizown
2836024, wellllll... it would've been the best song on Recovery... that's gotta
Posted by DonWonJusuton, Tue Aug-27-13 05:56 AM
count for something, i suppose... and i'm not gonna act like he doesn't always opens up w/ the corniest track/single for his albums, so maybe the album might be worth something... as far as the yelling, i don't know why he couldn't have let "Till I Collapse" be the top volume/intensity... and i don't know when/why eminem thought it'd be a good idea to switch to being a punchline rapper (actually, i do know when - that "despicable" track before Recovery, then Recovery.. still don't know 'why' tho)... dude comes off mad corny... oh and the hook on this track really blows...

i dunno... i'm still in hyper-critical mode w/ this dude... Recovery was the lowest of lows when i was expecting the highest of highs.. so that aftertaste was extra bad.. but when em is at his best, he really is an absolute monster, so i'll always give him a shot (and i'd rather like him than not)... shit ain't lookin' up tho..
2836056, Solid Limp Bizkit impression.

Posted by murph71, Tue Aug-27-13 01:14 PM

Don't know what to think on this one...

On the one hand it's cool to hear Em do something that is out of the mainstream (Old School flow, feel, groove, production, ect...)

On the other hand it's kind of blatant and a bit grating....

*throws hands up*...
2836205, Average ass lyrics that would get a pass had he not been yelling
Posted by bwood, Tue Aug-27-13 02:03 PM
I think the beat is dope, but that's just me.

It's way better than Survival.
2836250, This is bad
Posted by Musa, Tue Aug-27-13 03:00 PM
not in a good way.
2836260, After listening to the song....
Posted by phemom, Tue Aug-27-13 03:28 PM
It doesn't sound authentic....I got no problem with the lyrics cause it's an Em single, he isn't gonna reinvent the wheel. My problem is with the music, if you are gonna make something like the Beasties it needs to sound dirtier & sloppier. Beasties made music sounding like they were always on a shoestring budget....this sounds like a millionare making a beastie impression. Rick should've stripped it a little.

That said, this is a lot more listenable than all of Em's past singles...the 2nd single is where he goes left, let's see what that one is.
2836757, good call about making it dirtier
