Producers that fall off probably don't maintain good relationships with artists and managers/agents. Or, probably got some ego/complex that makes niggas not wanna fuck with you.

2824850, Not 00's but what happened to Ant Banks? Posted by ry 213, Tue Jul-23-13 11:11 PM
He was untouchable on the west in the 90's and then disappeared...

2824855, But Fredwreck Nassar Been Around Since The Mid 90's... Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Tue Jul-23-13 11:29 PM
...so he's not really a 00's producer, he's produced for tons of artist, and he's still producing, he's recently produced a track for WC, Snoop Dogg, and for Everlast, so I wouldn't call that falling off or disappearing but more like getting unnoticed by you all.

Fergie's "The Glamorous Life" single is my favorite song produced by him, followed by Ciara's "Promise".

2824902, Lil Jon owns this post Posted by gritty, Wed Jul-24-13 04:46 AM
Because he was everywhere years ago. Last time I saw him was on Donald Trump's reality tv show.
|
2824904, I think he got a residency DJ'ing in Vegas. Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Jul-24-13 05:47 AM
I'd say his record label problems was the biggest thing that cooled him off, when he couldn't lend his voice on hooks to the beats that he did.
I also think a white crowd "discovered" him via Chappelle Show, while his original audience (niggas) just wanted to pigeonhole him into that joke.

2825056, Oh he should be paid off of that. Posted by gritty, Wed Jul-24-13 01:40 PM

2825052, One thing to remember is that the budgets changed Posted by CMcMurtry, Wed Jul-24-13 01:38 PM
And a lot of these dudes got priced out of the market, at least in rap music.
They were used to the era of $30,000+ producer fees, plus the back end stuff. Those days are long gone.
Instead, artists started using new producers they (or their label, management, etc.) found online who would sell a beat for damn near nothing, just to get their foot in the door and to get the shine of being on a label.
Of course, when those same producers then tried to start to monetize their music and charged reasonable rates, they got phased out and the new Soundclick or Twitter producer was brought in.
There's a reason dudes like Just Blaze or Lil Jon do DJ gigs these days instead of make beats, and it's not because they all of a sudden lost the ability to make dope shit.
|
2825287, mannie fresh alluded to this. Posted by LiquidSwords3000, Thu Jul-25-13 03:12 AM
he said the reason you don't hear his beats anymore is because there's only "3 to 4" people that can afford him, in his words.
and much of his reasoning is he insists that young producers "giving away" music on mixtapes messed up everything, but yeah he didn't really address the fact that the sales & budgets changed.
because i get where his frustration stems from, but when you compare that to a guy like alchemist who's seemed to have done the complete opposite in recent years & pretty much opening the flood gates on his beats. i'm sure most of these projects have limited to no budgets, but that hasn't stopped him.

2825409, I Still Play "Ge-Ology Plays Ge-Ology" Every Once In A While Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Thu Jul-25-13 12:31 PM
Even though I had the majority of the songs on it from 12inch joints he produced for other artists, to have those instrumental joints all on one cd was perfect plus it was continuously mixed was a dope.
Can't wait for that new album cause after he released that I thought he would be getting calls from underground rappers all over the place, so I'm eager to hear what he's been working on.

2825191, In a way, that whole era of West Coast producers have been quiet Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed Jul-24-13 07:40 PM
lately, but they have still made music.
Battlecat hasn't had many songs that get radio play, even here, since maybe "Cali is active."
Meech Wells been ghost.
Rick Rock was a MONSTER in the Hyphy movement, he's made music since but nothing as big
G-One has been pretty ghost.
Jelly Roll had HEATERS in that early 2000 period.
Soopafly had some bangers back then, he's still making random stuff for DPG and had a solo a few years ago.
L.T. Hutton was in that DPG camp...he's been ghost

2825203, RE: In a way, that whole era of West Coast producers have been quiet Posted by melanon, Wed Jul-24-13 08:21 PM
Jellyroll NEVER had heaters.

2825223, WHAT?????? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!!!! Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Wed Jul-24-13 09:43 PM
THIS wasn't a banger?????? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3amxsFWCT0
Or THIS???? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSXkVXz_oys
THIS?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWeTqPgkSls
Even laid back underrated tracks like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4MFxA5dlrU
And most of all....THIS????? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TLIVstm6rE
*calms down....while Cripwalkin*
I even liked his experimental tracks like "I can't swim." "Stoplight" was kinda experimental in a way. He was one of the originators of that slightly off beat L.A. sound, especially in the "Gangsta" lane...Dilla influenced the more progressive Boom Bappers. But shit I'd argue that folks like Flying Lotus were even influenced by Jelly Roll.
|
2825234, You see them pretty buttons on my stereooooooooooo? Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Jul-24-13 10:41 PM
Don't touch 'em, hoe.
He had some dope shit on one of them Xzibit albums I copped.
|
2825487, Yeah he def had a run. I like his weird soundin beats too Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Jul-25-13 04:54 PM

this is my SHIT. that is one of the best records from the west coast period.
|
2825431, Yep. After Dre n Battlecat, I might say Jelly gave Snoop some of his Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Jul-25-13 01:32 PM
Best tracks in that period. For sure better than what Meech Wells had.
|
2825261, JellyRoll just did an EP with Lil' Wyte.... Posted by phemom, Thu Jul-25-13 12:34 AM
it drops next week...and it's a waste of good beats.
|
2825265, Yeah I Saw That In The Store Last Week Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Thu Jul-25-13 12:52 AM
>JellyRoll just did an EP with Lil' Wyte.... >it drops next week...and it's a waste of good beats.
When I saw it I was thinking the same thing too, it's a shame but yeah that's how it is these days, dope producers will sell beats to anybody who wants them, can't be picky these days.
I wonder if those beats were old joints that Snoop & Xzibit turned down when Jellyroll was giving them heaters?
