Madlib and Freddie Gibbs are finished with their collaborative album, Piñata, which is slated for release later this year. Guests on the album include Raekwon, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Domo Genesis, Joey Bada$$, Ab Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech of Flatbush Zombies, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester the Saint, G-Wiz.

Run the Jewels and this may just be the best rap albums this year. Damn whodathunkit.
2823316, never expected madlib

or at least put the damn Rock Konducta ALBUM out (ie not only a vinyl 45 w/ 5 beats that costs as much as a damn album anyway)
2823528, And one of the beats was rehash!
Posted by OKdamn, Sat Jul-20-13 05:23 PM
Sometimes I wanna sit Madlib down and ask him "why" but you know what - he's earned a lifetime pass from me fk it
2823566, really? what beat?
Posted by philpot, Sat Jul-20-13 07:30 PM

more than half those dudes are trash
2823373, yeah, just the 2 of them are enough to make an exciting album
Posted by BNueve, Sat Jul-20-13 09:27 AM
no need for all that
2823375, let's not act like 'Lib doesn't have a long record w/ trash rappers

2823469, shit. madlib himself is a trash rapper
Posted by Kosa12, Sat Jul-20-13 01:53 PM
2823471, disagree
Posted by guru0509, Sat Jul-20-13 02:07 PM
2823484, he has his moments but yeah i don't disagree...
Posted by philpot, Sat Jul-20-13 03:24 PM
i think he was decent in the lootpack days but never great

this is honestly the reason i haven't copped that "new" Quas tho
2823486, Honestly I had been avoiding The Unseen
Posted by Kosa12, Sat Jul-20-13 03:39 PM
for years because on all the tracks I had heard from it/him as quas in general he was kinda trash on the mic

and I listened to the whole thing last night.....and he is trash on the mic

but those instrumentals though......dope

he was def better with lootpack
2823487, yeah, to me BOTH Quas albums work much better as instro albums
Posted by philpot, Sat Jul-20-13 03:42 PM
2823530, I give him a pass cause he isn't trying to 'rip the mic'
Posted by OKdamn, Sat Jul-20-13 05:30 PM
He's just rapping for the sake of rapping
2823507, Nitty ain't right without Dank
Posted by OKdamn, Sat Jul-20-13 04:34 PM
I listened to Drinks Up the other day and was DYIN at all the funny shit they we're saying. The cold part is I don't even think they were trying to be funny.
2823511, his voice & cadence alone give me seizures & i start bleeding...
Posted by philpot, Sat Jul-20-13 04:40 PM
from the ears

not really but u get my point

and this is all BEFORE his ridiculous subject matter even comes into play
2823514, his rapping on Nittyville seemed mad phoned in
Posted by OKdamn, Sat Jul-20-13 04:46 PM
I was like where is the nigga from Pause & Okay? I can see how someone wouldn't fk wit him now, but he did have some quotables in F&D imo
2823516, i guess
Posted by philpot, Sat Jul-20-13 04:53 PM
Nittyville was painful, the one real stain on the Medicine Show IMO, to be real the Guilty shit was pretty weak too

still i was never a big fan of nitty
2823376, damn...the guests are why I wanna check it out
Posted by Mash_Comp, Sat Jul-20-13 09:33 AM

2823505, i will say two things
Posted by philpot, Sat Jul-20-13 04:21 PM
1-Oddisee's depth on the mic goes way over most ppl's heads

2-check Verb's hook on "Sweet Love" off Ugly Heroes...since you wanna talk about hooks, THAT is the kind of hook i can give props to
2823493, right! I mean yes and no
Posted by astralblak, Sat Jul-20-13 04:04 PM
Gibbs better than all except Danny, so i was checking regardless, but Ab, Meech and Earl are great rappers

No on Mac STILL. and Rae and Gibbs two peas in a pod content wise
2823501, woops

2823394, I said the same thing when I peeped the guests.
Posted by bwood, Sat Jul-20-13 10:38 AM
2823502, Who's Polyester the Saint?
Posted by mrshow, Sat Jul-20-13 04:16 PM
2823611, he's part of the League of Starz/HBK/The Invasion crew in LA
Posted by Nodima, Sat Jul-20-13 11:48 PM
He's done a lot of dope hook and production work, if you're a Gibbs fan you know him from that killer party track with Dom Kennedy last summer, "Menace II Society".

He's got some pretty cool projects though, he's in that Jay Ant/IAmSu! mold.

2823526, I'll still buy it, bc Gibbs is prob top 5 right now IMO
Posted by guru0509, Sat Jul-20-13 05:20 PM
but to answer your question, I'm not a fan of Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Domo Genesis, Ab Soul, Casey Veggies or Mac Miller (edit, and I have no idea who the heck Polyester Saint is)

3013062, I was wrong. This album is perfect from start to finish.

Joey
Danny Brown
BJ

...hopefully some of these artists get some madlib beats and use them. Actually a BJ the Chicago Kid/Madlib album would be awesome imo.

Really good to great R&B music on there.

2823506, anyone heard that alternate OJ Simpson?
Posted by OKdamn, Sat Jul-20-13 04:26 PM
I hope that's gonna hit the ST store. I need some fresh Madlib music..
2823648, It won't be in the ST store, and it's not new tunes
Posted by quikfit, Sun Jul-21-13 09:05 AM
It's a drip.fm exclusive.

Official word from ST:
yes this will only be on Drip. Keep in mind, this is not an album of remixes -- it's an alternate sequence with some slightly different edits and a hell of a lot less interludes. We wanted to post some back catalog on Drip this month, so this was just an opportunity to post a different version of the album that was not the commercial release.

BTW, I signed up for their drip.fm - best $9.99/month I could spend.
LOTS of great music, and a great way to preview stuff to decide if I want to grab the LP.
2823673, Cool, thanks. If it's not new beats then I ain't gonna sweat it
Posted by OKdamn, Sun Jul-21-13 11:52 AM
I will check out Drip though

like you can see in the transcript of my convo with Lambo in the mixtape post.

considering they claim it's a project 4 years in the making (so...2009), though, I'm curious what that means. Probably nothing, but man. For a pair of artists that have put out a LOT of work since 2009, that's an interesting claim to me.

http://www.factmag.com/2013/09/03/freddie-gibbs-and-madlib-announce-pinata-release-date-feature-list-stream-deeper-now/

Gangsta Gibbs and the legendary crate-digger preview a new EP.

Long-awaited collaborative album Piñata (shortened from the original — and brilliant — title Cocaine Piñata) is now due for release on February 4, 2014 via Madlib Invazion. The album is a guest-heavy affair that will feature feature Raekwon, Scarface, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Joey Bada$$, Ab Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech (of Flatbush Zombies), Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester the Saint, and G-Wiz.

To hold fans over, the duo will release the Deeper EP next week; stream the title track below. As always, Gibbs’ razor-sharp flow pairs nicely with Madlib’s soul-flavored beatcraft. Earlier this summer, DJ Spinn describes the duo’s Thuggin EP as an “instant classic.”
