I love seeing Jesse. Criminally slept on. That crowd was feeling it. Okay so this is his best backing band to date. No question. Excellent line up. I need to watch this documentary again. This isn't relic music - this is just good music. May not be the popular choice but I'm glad he did it. If we were there we'd be seeing the big picture on this one.

yep like Duke said there are only two types of music good and the other kind, an this is good music for sure
2803188, gettin funky live never gets old.... it's not a style..it's a standard
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Mon May-06-13 10:23 PM
cats try and get all scientific about why artists aren't getting funky live on stage....lol.

shit cracks me up..

got to bring that raw live funky energy on stage...
2803189, It's true. This band is dope - no way around it.
Posted by Artful Dodger, Mon May-06-13 10:27 PM
If they bring a full D'angelo show to the stage with that line up?

Forget about it. Funky and tight.

Forget the formulas, rules, case studies and just all around arm chair philosophical discussion. That alone is anti-funk lol. If anyone has a problem - they should do better. That simple. Now that I have seen the entire documentary and most of the performance of what hasn't been edited down, I hate I missed that. He got it in. I for one enjoyed it - great show. That's two really great well documented performances kudos to D'angelo, Quest, Posyer, Jesse & co. Yep.

2803329, I think i figured it out

d is waiting for the musical shift from the oontz into something else
GENIUS!!

This was good to see.
I enjoyed seeing him and the band seem like bros just playing music
And not on some GOD and the gang type shit

WHEN this record finally drops, his camp should just STFU and let the music speak for itself imo
2803334, waiting for as opposed to causing?

2803619, unfortunately, very underwhelming performance of this beatles track
Posted by betelgeuse, Wed May-08-13 11:53 AM
when i read about them covering this i got excited. but they stayed very close to the original and forgot to kick it in the ass.

You hit the nail on the head here. I love D' to death, but he does stick VERY close to the originals when he covers. In some respects, it's nice. In other respects, I'd like to hear a REALLY heavy, innovative approach to a classic. He shines best doing his own material, because it's not easy to set up comparisons to other performers or so.
2803672, well,

'always in my hair' and 'cruisin' -and even 'feel like makin love' to some extent- are solid covers. songs he made his own.

'bathroom window' is just live karaoke to me. that goes for pretty much the whole bonnaroo performance if you ask me.

his version of 'let me have it all' during the brooklyn bowl gig, not to mention 'really love', that shit makes me smile and long for a new, proper release...
2803681, his version of Feel like making love from the Voodoo tour
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Wed May-08-13 03:12 PM
was a completely different take on the original...and the extended funk jam they put at the end was one of the highlights of the concert..
2803690, like everything they do

2803623, not to get all AFKAPy with it, but that funk had about a 3 on it.

why don't you post up something that is FUNKY...

Prince is doing a good share of Vegas funk in his shows now.....I seen it...it's cool..but he's not even as funky as himself anymore..

taking digs at new artists who are doing their thing doesn't make Prince look any better...you should know that...it only makes you look like the idiot who is getting his posts locked on his 5th screen name..

change the name..the game stays the same... you don't even know shit about Prince's music...lol. just becasue you got a replica shiny Purple Prince trenchcoat doesn't mean you know about prince..

like I said..you look like a fool little x...

I remember when the Rainbow Children came out you said that "This is what Gospel should sound like"..

lolol..

you's a clown man...
2804166, sorry not funky, bro

I like plenty of new working artist.

However, the artist video you posted was not a good take of what you intended: something funky

Hey, I give two fucks bro, go cry about it.

turkey ain't doing nothing but being a gypys Lounge act and not memorable at it. yeah he can play and mumble some times on key, however put the weed down and write something original and find your own idenity and stop acting like Leon is going to do your tv movie of the week on NBC any week now.
2804167, that would require having a work ethic

in that he fronts as a lounge cover act of R&B from the past and yet he is cool with being in that David Allen Grier character of sayingg I got a song, you want to hear, hear it goes.
