he was an awesome bandleader and arranger. wrote some dope tv and movie scores, too.

no, he never did anything better than OTW.
but neither did MJ. that's not saying anything.

what is a producers job?
he's responsible for a lot of things.

finding the right tunes?
check.

putting the band together?
check.

getting the best performance possible out of all the artists?
check.

(MJ talked about this in his book. about how Quincy pushed him.
How Quincy brought together the right team of musicians.
How Quincy would make adjustments to bring the song to life...
"this song is in the wrong key. you need a string arrangement here."

MJ was always a gifted vocalist. and he started to develop his adult voice with the Jacksons. but who do you think got him to sing on the lower end of his tenor in OTW?
that was Quincy. And you can tell b/c on triumph he sings on the upper end of his tenor.
OTW had the best vocal performances.

and obviously, Q had a great team.
but so did George Clinton. doesn't take away from what he did.

who pushed MJ to come through with a rock song like "beat it."
MJ had it, but wouldn't release it.

they brought out the best in each other.
neither one of them ever topped OTW.
it was, indeed, magic.
