is because it doesn't have the same kind of self-righteousness that a lot of people claimed turned them off in most "conscious" stuff. Ye never talks down to the audience... He never positions himself as being the "wise" or the "good" one.

He lays out an issue in simple terms, as if he is just learning about it itself (which he was). He spares no detail in underlining the seriousness of the situation and how it links to his own behavior.

But then he turns around and approaches it from the other direction and openly admits that he feels conflicted about it.

In the end, some might see it as a copout as his summation is basically to say "Fuck all that, Roc-a-Fella!!!!" but I love the honesty of that verse, and the willingness to entertain more than one point of view at a time (ie critical thinking), which is something that you didn't get from a lot of other "conscious" rap.
