man, i love dilla and his music and love that i got a chance to watch this. is there anyway i could get a track list to look up and make a comparison. i was having trouble keeping up.

the ones i can pick out are pretty mindblowin. i am ashamed and hopeful for all the ones that i don't know because i'll have a good time researching.

ahhh this is so dope. i knew ?uestlove was the truth on the drums, but he completely captured not only the dilla feel and swing, but the actual "sound."

my favorite was "u n ur smile." that's one of my all-time favorite dilla beats, and the roots captured that perfect. "eve" was pretty crazy too.

great work, and the mixing and blending was seamless, the filters and effects made it extra dope.

2760338, Damn ?uestlove's Set Was Sickly Amazing

I've peeped the one collection of Roots VS. J-Dilla that Mr.15 put out there but it seems that was just the tip of the iceberg of joints the Roots did, it seems like they probably covered at least 75% of his beats (and probably all of them far as we know); I'm a J-Dilla and happened to have been lucky to found a few leaks of the his beat-tapes but not that many cause it was quite a few beats I didn't recognize.

From the tubeyou video comments a lot of people were complaining about not seeing people dancing but c'mon these days people don't dance to real hip-hop music anymore that's for lounges.

2760553, Question for ?uestlove
Posted by dafriquan, Mon Dec-03-12 09:02 AM
aren't you tempted to just use some of your dilla live joints on actual roots albums or placements (or "sampling" elements of them). i mean the sound you get out of them is so dense and heavy. and i'm sure BT could write to these easily. No sample clearance involved.
2760615, Damn can we get some more dilla stories?
Posted by NotScared2Ask, Mon Dec-03-12 12:49 PM
Not no shit about strip clubs and how he loved trucks. Like creative process nerdy shit please
2760729, I second this notion ...
Posted by QBoogie, Mon Dec-03-12 08:49 PM
.... purty please.
2760645, This is the best mix ?uest has ever done. Played it about 10x already.

The 100% exclusive tracklisting, the quick mixing, and the effects make this his best effort behind the decks IMO. Really fucking impressive....wish he would've gone another hour or so.

Do you know what he's using for effects?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm just generally interested in how it all works.
2761540, I think it's just effects that you can get from the mixer

Like reverb and messing with the treble and bass etc.

Peace,

Nij
2761033, It was nice hearing him recreate a Madlib beat.

I am amazed at the quality of the re-creations of the beats. I mean, I've heard people doing these tribute beats and re-edits, re-workings and interpretations which have been truly amazing (Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Robert Glasper) but the Roots' versions seem to really take it to another level.

I know Dilla was like a God to ?uest and that really comes out in the overall vibe. It is breath-taking; really exceptional.

Is there a tracklist for this? There are one or two of the beats that I didn't recognise.

Peace,

Nij
