Dancers in the entourage, and in the videos, over uncompromising rap music. I was just thinking of the '90s, when Premier really came into prominence.

then, it felt like people stopped dancing more or less to rap music that sounded like "rap" (I mean, something that Larry Smith could have made back in the day) after about '92 or so. even Heavy started to mess around with other genres of music for a lil bit, before coming back hardcore.

or rather, the sound of rap beats started getting more violent. I think that's where Premier's ears were at. He made more "fight" music than he did danceable hip-hop. One major exception was something like "Skills", which really disappointed me when they made the video.

that was a throwback hip-hop (like damn near early '80s) sort of sounding record and then you had Guru doing thug shit on a low budget background.

I guess his remixes for Janet Jackson count too
