2666412, DMX on Drake (swipe/link)
Posted by Brew, Thu Feb-23-12 12:44 PM
Priceless. At this point I'd rather hear this dude talk about, like, mustard than hear him rap. He is hilarious.

“I don’t like anything about Drake. I don’t like his f*cking voice. I don’t like what he talks about. I don’t like his face. I don’t like the way he walks. Like, nothing. I don’t like his haircut. I might just… Let me shut up, I’ll just stop right there.”

I wonder what would have followed "I might just..." lol?!

of what?
what's drakes best scans? 650k or some bullshit?
dmx sold like 10 million records in america in 1 year.
i think he's done everything drake has done in much greater excess around the age drake is now.
2666592, Listen, I hate Drake but let's be fair...
Posted by Brew, Thu Feb-23-12 06:47 PM
times were much different when X was the hottest rapper out. The odds are against anyone selling 10 mil these days.

i get it but numbers don't change and a dollar is still the same as it was 14 years ago.
the fact of the matter is for your mans & them saying this, yeah you can get away with a "you just jealous".
but when it's somebody who sold enough records to never have to make another song in their life... it's something else.
knowing x and the type of style he's gotten down with his entire career in contrast to drake, i believe him on face value.
2666688, We agree on the rest of that stuff...

But still, numbers aren't what they used to be. No one sells 10 million anymore cause people illegally download way more than they did in 1999-2001 when X was the biggest.
2668207, and? DMX has had money drake will never see.
Posted by ninjitsu, Tue Feb-28-12 03:50 AM
so why would he be jealous?
2668232, What you mean "and?"?! Did you comprehend....
Posted by Brew, Tue Feb-28-12 08:37 AM
everything correctly?

And I wouldn't bet that Drake will never see X's money. Appears to me that he's doing pretty well and is only getting more popular.

Worst argument ever. Yea, look at the charts and tell me the shit don't all sound exactly the same. The charts are no indication of whether or not something is overplayed/overdone/too much.

Hypothetically, is there ever a situation where someone could feel the way DMX does about Drake and it NOT be out of jealousy or bitterness? Can a person hate a person's whole style and feel and it not be tied to envy?

Can't say I have much of an opinion about his haircut.

However, this idea that X can't have an opinion on Drake is foolish. He was asked a question. It's not like he went out of his way, on twitter or something, to bash dude.

2666730, When DMX first came out, his success was
Posted by amplifya7, Fri Feb-24-12 06:01 AM
partially due to his rawness at a time when rap music was 'soft', i.e. Puffy and Ma$e reigning supreme...It would be cool if he could make some type of comeback now that 'the drake sound' has taken over (although i'd rather listen to 2012 Drake than DMX by far)
2666754, if that raw energy comes back, it'll be a new artist, not DMX
Posted by CMcMurtry, Fri Feb-24-12 09:10 AM
2666844, Some have stated that Meek Mill is/could be that new artist
Posted by self_ish, Fri Feb-24-12 01:32 PM
I don't get that type of energy from him at all though. People see motorbikes in a video and all of a sudden it's the second coming of the Ruff Ryders.
2666944, There is (or was) a certain rawness from Meek
Posted by CMcMurtry, Fri Feb-24-12 03:06 PM
You don't hear it as much in the singles that have popped off ("Tupac Back", "I'm A Boss", shit even "Rose Red" before that), but on his mixtape joints? Big time.

But much in the same way that X shined best with Grease and Swizz, and away from them felt a little empty, Meek needs Jahlil.

that's revisionist imo.
there was still dozens and dozens of new songs every month that were raw/grimey/hard/street/hood whatever in 1997.
you had diamond d getting rotation along side puffy.
you had beatnuts, big pun, lord tariq & peter gunz, organized konfusion, etc etc etc all getting spins next to puffy/mase.

the conception that it was all puffy/mase all the time and that dmx was some savior is really overstated.

dmx blew up because lyor was so sold on him and def jam had BET/hot 97 play his record several times an hour.
he just HAPPENED to be on that extra cruddy tip.

Dark Man X: Scarface, I listen to Jay-Z's first album, um ... I fuckin' love Drake.
Rembert Man X: Really?
Dark Man X: No, no, that was a joke.
Rembert Man X: Ha ha, so you really, really don't like Drake?
Dark Man X: Yeah, I really, really don't like him. Not at all.
Rembert Man X: Is it his music? Is it his persona?
Dark Man X: I don't like his voice. His persona. He is talented, he is, I'll give him that. But why is he whining everything? Whining.

Clearly y'all did not not watch the interview. You see a 30 second clip about him saying Drake is wack and he's bitter? Is Drake NOT wack or something? What other answer could there be? He didn't give props to Wayne and he said Ross and Jeezy are wack lyrically too.

If there was any type of hating, maybe you could make a case for what he said about Jigga, but otherwise that's some bullshit.

And that whole interview is worth watching. Hilarious.

2668172, These posts keep getting more boring
Posted by lakai336, Tue Feb-28-12 01:06 AM
One side of the fence gets all hyped whenever some rapper validates their hatred of Drake. The funny part being often times it's some cornball ass rapper they usually don't care about. If DMX wasn't talking about Drake, he wouldn't even be brought up in here except in posts about his era, where the majority of you probably would've came in downplaying his success/talent.

On the other side of the fence, Drake fans (I've obviously been guilty of this in the past) jump in and make fun of whatever annoyed has-been rapper is busy making remarks. Why do we waste time doing this? I don't know, but I decided to stop awhile back.

It's all foregone conclusions and the open-minded in any kind of discussion are few and far between. So fuck it.

This shit looks more like people magazine or the corny hip-hop gossip forum than anything else.

I posted this cause I thought the interview was hilarious. His comments about Drake included. I have been clear that I don't like Drake or his music, but you'll also see above that I'm defending him to a certain extent because whether I like him or not, I can respect the fact that he's on top or close to the top of the game right now.

Posted by mistermaxxx08, Wed Feb-29-12 11:15 AM
i likes a DMX interview because he doesn't butter up not of these corny turkeys and he had a career with hype, however he matched it.

drake seems so forced and contrived it ain't even funny.

DMX got character and that alone is badly lacking nowadays especially when a cat tell you how they really feel about said artist.
