Lately I favor this kind, sort of spare/minimal, open, warm but cold at
times... maybe not always. You're probably better off just listening. :)

Who am I fooling? 98% of what I listen to is very slow, very wimpy and very quiet.

Because we've had words in the past on purely non-music grounds, I feel like I need to justify my rebuff pre-emptively.

So, before I even begin, here is a look at my Ahmad Jamal library. . .
Vinyl:
http://i42.tinypic.com/4rzrbd.jpg
CD:
http://i39.tinypic.com/28un1jp.jpg

(and, for good measure, I've seen the man live in concert three times; twice on the In Search tour and once on the After Fajr tour)

So that brings me up to speed: how can you say A Quiet Time is "chill out" when it is clearly the liveliest of his albums from recent times?

It leads me to believe one of two things: 1) you haven't really heard any of his previous contemporary albums to have a proper measuring stick or 2) you only looked at title and decided therein what kind of "sound" the album has.

In either case, it should be suggested that Ahmad has many "chill out" worthy moments far superior in his catalogue. Hell, any of his guitar/bass/piano trio albums from the 50's should qualify on sheer sound alone.

Which leads me to ask: have you ever heard any of those old albums?

I asked for and received it on a whim for PM. You can read my woeful thoughts here:

http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/121411-ahmad-jamal-a-quiet-time

There's a reason I don't review jazz, though, and it pretty much starts and ends with the poor education oozing through that review.

Doesn't change the fact that I like to chill out to A Quiet Time, though. Thanks for the tips.
