The Asian brother with the deep voice that everybody though was black?

What ever happened to him?
13339202, I definitely remember him (not from LA)

Good ol' Theo Mizuhara
13339210, what i really miss is John London's House Party from those days
Posted by Selah, Thu Jun-20-19 10:08 AM
they were hilarious
13339216, yup

I remember when bru showed up in an Adina Howard video and folks realized he was Asian. Rocked so many women's world. Bruh always playedsome good music.
13339224, He had a national profile, because I remember him too.
Posted by Teknontheou, Thu Jun-20-19 10:48 AM
Maybe he did some stuff on MTV, or something, for me to know who he was?
13339227, never been to LA but yes
Posted by makaveli, Thu Jun-20-19 11:05 AM
13339228, I DO! I went down an internet rabbit hole a year ago
Posted by double negative, Thu Jun-20-19 11:12 AM
Because I remember how big dude was.

And, I remember how shocked we were at the big reveal.

And now? Its as if he never existed.

I think he did some acting from what I remember. boston public maybe.

Also, was the beat that had that show on Sundays called Street Science with Dominque Duprima? - I remember the spoken word opening - something something "get pissed enough to missed the bus....fisticuffs"

13339235, Best 92.3 Beat drop that shouted Theo out:

13339589, Love those radio drops!

Some of them are up there with Quiks soonest music.
13339248, there was this GQ Filipino dude from work back then
Posted by Mynoriti, Thu Jun-20-19 12:24 PM
In the mailroom. Everyone else was black and they all called him Theo

Pretty much the whole company called him that, including people who didn't know who Theo was

But I had no idea people outside of LA knew who he was
13339254, hilarious

13339255, haha for sure, a legend in the LA asian american tribe
Posted by rawsouthpaw, Thu Jun-20-19 12:50 PM
13339257, he had the women wrapped with his relatonship speeches
Posted by rdhull, Thu Jun-20-19 12:59 PM
He used to play the 'love shoulda brought your ass home last night'' scene from Boomerang all the time lol
13339279, Uh oh. Am I old?
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jun-20-19 01:38 PM
(I’m 37)

Proboaly just missed him. My guess is he dissaperared arounf '95 or '96?
13339469, Earlier than that, on 106.1 KMEL in the Bay
Posted by Original Juice, Fri Jun-21-19 11:37 AM
We all knew he as Japanese American.

Good mixer, but his on air personality was cringe.. Extra smooth and sultry lol. Then again, there was a white dude on KMEL with the same swag.. Evan Luck. That whole effeminate whispering thing was corny.
13339527, damn we got Theo AND Sway & Tech from up north?
Posted by T Reynolds, Fri Jun-21-19 02:50 PM
didn't know that

>Good mixer, but his on air personality was cringe.. Extra
>smooth and sultry lol. Then again, there was a white dude on
>KMEL with the same swag.. Evan Luck. That whole effeminate
>whispering thing was corny.

kinda how I feel about Joe Kay from Soulection lol
13339534, I think he was on the Beat and then KMEL, no?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jun-21-19 03:17 PM
After he left the Beat I heard he was going up there and also that he was going to be on KDEY in LA at one point.

13339470, I thought about this a month or so ago
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Fri Jun-21-19 11:40 AM
and did some googling.

Hes had a couple of radio stints but given his profile back then, he's done a great job of wiping his internet presence and seems like nobody really knows what hes doing now
13339489, I used to think DJ EZ-D*ck on those Death Row records
Posted by Selah, Fri Jun-21-19 12:57 PM
was a parody of him (or at least that "style" of radio DJ) sans the " no hiphop ever" part

the overboard late night thirstrapping of teenage girls was hella creepy too
13339530, He was in radio for a sec in mid 2000s
Posted by double 0, Fri Jun-21-19 03:10 PM
When they brought the beat back as 93.5

http://www.urbanradionation.com/2009/01/theo-no-longer-with-kday.html

Then he rolled out again
13339535, Many suggested that it being known he was Asian hurt his career
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jun-21-19 03:18 PM
I dunno if that's true or not. He seemed to really hit a wall though around the time he started appearing publicly and putting his face out there though, so that makes some sense. He had gigs after the Beat switched dials/formats (it's now a hip hop station again and a really really shitty one at that) but they didn't last. I liked him, great voice and a fun attitude.
13339552, i always heard that but it just seemed like a thing people say
Posted by Mynoriti, Fri Jun-21-19 04:38 PM
people used to say he lost listeners when people found out he was asian but i always felt like it was more something people just repeated than reality.

maybe it hindered him after, but who knows. it's radio.
13339557, Perhaps that’s true.
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Jun-21-19 05:28 PM
I remember him being featured on the news or something and people were SURPRISED he was Asian but he was still mega popular for some time after that.
13339568, he was on the radio long after people knew he was JA bro
Posted by T Reynolds, Fri Jun-21-19 07:27 PM
13339784, On the Beat though? Seems like he put his face out there, then faded
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon Jun-24-19 02:40 PM
Wasn't he on an episode of Moesha or some shit?

I'm not saying he *definitely* lost ground because he was Japanese, but that did circulate around and the timing kinda supports it.

This is also a topic I haven't really visited in a long time lol
13339680, maybe he was 10 years too soon
Posted by double negative, Mon Jun-24-19 09:58 AM
13339556, Not from LA, but it cracked me up that Tha Alkaholiks dissed him on...
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Jun-21-19 05:27 PM
...their third album.

Also, back when when I was doing college radio, the dude before me was from LA and basically jacked Theo's whole steez. Even called his show "The Beat."
13339585, Is he the same DUde who was an MTV VJ back in the day?
Posted by Adwhizz, Sat Jun-22-19 06:05 AM
I remember this smooth, laid back Asian Dude with a deep voice who was there for a few months.
13340061, nah, but he was the DJ in Waiting to Exhale
Posted by JtothaI, Tue Jun-25-19 12:15 PM
.
13340090, I think he was a VJ on MTV for a hot second.

Chicks liked him even MORE when they found out he was Asian too.. At least at my school. I wonder what happened to dude.
