13337453, On Earth 2 white people arent allowed to be cops
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 08:38 AM
I had a jack off call himself flashing his badge at me this morning
Was he in a cop car? No a Jetta
Was he in a cop uniform? No he looked and dressed like Johnathan Hodgeman
But what he was was a white man. That was driving both below the speed limit and conditions in the fast lane.
So when I passed him and gave him the appropriate finger his only response was to flash his badge at me
To which I replied with an additional finger, and mouthed “I don’t care” and then gestured to the speedometer
Was I wrong? No. Was I inappropriate? 50/50

But i also wasn’t the one trying to hide behind some false authority to justify my behavior.

Addendum: part of my irritation is that I’m quietly big on ethics and optics
And to rule based systems, one crack begets more
The manager that flirts with an intern
The cop car that flashes its lights to get through an intersection
The quid pro quo of capitalistic democracy ... all these things shake a foundation
And as a black man I’ll NEVER have trust in police, but if they think it’s just the fact that they’re openly racist and murderous, it’s so much more. When your near every interaction with them is in th grey, how can you ever even begin to trust them.

13337459, Cops are, overall, insecure dickheads.
Posted by flipnile, Mon Jun-10-19 09:04 AM
Where I work is near a bunch of courthouses and other government buildings, so I see a lot of cops every time I go outside. The number that won't make eye contact with me, look all scared or puff their chest out is unfortunately high. Why is it so hard for them to fit into normal society and do shit like say "good morning" or nod?

Respect to the cops that aren't like the about. Kinda sad it's literally like 1/50 that I see.

Also southern road rage scare me, as well as drivers from New Jersey. Always seems *personal* with southern & NJ drivers. Passing someone too fast for their liking and they go into a rage, even tho they are ZERO percent affected by it. Honk at one of these mofos and the passive aggressive driving behaviours come out.

Add in a badge and sense of entitlement and I can imagine something like that.

13337463, its strange having local PD as clients...
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:08 AM
and then having to interact with them outside of work parameters. stark difference in how they act. i've definitely had to name drop a few folks bosses to get them to tighten up.
13337477, People are looking for beef everywhere
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:34 AM
And you get someone behind a 2500 lb machine with zero accountability they get “beer muscles”
It’s whatever.
13337461, You should chill on the road rage before you run into the wrong one
Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Mon Jun-10-19 09:05 AM
.
13337470, If I get got over the finger then I do.
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:22 AM
I wasn’t tailgating.
Wasn’t swerving
Wasn’t threatening.
Didn’t follow.
I gave the finger.
13337465, false authority is also policing the speed lane giving the finger
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 09:14 AM
13337468, Passing someone is policing? Tell me more.
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:18 AM
13337474, giving the finger is (your version of policing), dont be obtuse
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 09:25 AM
13337478, I did zero to control his behavior
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:36 AM
I gave him the finger as I passed him
Didn’t tailgate him
Didn’t flash him while I was behind him
You have a dumb take on what policing behavior is
13337483, K. good luck with that.
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 09:48 AM
13337486, Just call it what it is, I wasn’t polite. Not in the least
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:51 AM
But it’s not the same as him literally flashing a police badge at me despite him behind socially and legally I the wrong.
So please feel free to say I was being a jerk
Or a dick
But policing isn’t indicative of my behavior.
13337481, Guy drives slower than speed limit and conditions in the fast lane
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:48 AM
Despite literal laws against doing so and opportunities not to do so
Other cars follow suit because ... reasons? Despite what their eyes and general knowledge tell them
Me, passes guy, gives him the finger

Y’all: omg that’s policing!

13337485, ^^ false authority to justify your behavior
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 09:51 AM
13337488, That’s not what authority is. Are you dumb?
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 09:54 AM
That’s full autonomy over my own behavior.
Authority: the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience

Me ... did not flash, or tailgate, or aggressively use my vehicle to induce action ... no order given
Make decision ... not relevant to the situation
Enforce obedience ... no behaviors were changed, nor attempted to.
13337505, the finger was your attempt to enforce obedience
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 10:42 AM
13337507, Ok. I’ll play. Obedience to what?
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 10:47 AM
What action was I trying to influence?
13337513, not go slow in the fast lane.
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 10:58 AM
13337514, That’s interesting, why would I act to influence that behavior after it
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 11:07 AM
No longer affected me, when I had the opportunity to do so when it would’ve benefited me.
13337521, good, now look in the mirror and repeat the question
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 11:23 AM
13337526, I did it because I wanted to, that’s my answer
Posted by MEAT, Mon Jun-10-19 11:48 AM
Now how does that relate to policing?
Or do you still not have an answer for that.
13337491, Are you from the south or New Jersey?
Posted by flipnile, Mon Jun-10-19 10:01 AM
This is what I'm talking about above. MEAT's actions had ZERO effect on the other driver, except EMOTIONALLY. People get all emo and act out in aggression because someone hurt their feelings are the problem.
13337494, But isn't MEAT the aggressive/emotional one in this situation though?
Posted by PimpTrickGangstaClik, Mon Jun-10-19 10:07 AM
He could have just passed the slow driver and let it slide with no reaction.

But he exhibited road rage by giving him the finger
13337497, I don't consider "the finger" as road rage
Posted by flipnile, Mon Jun-10-19 10:13 AM
Funny looks, stares, even yelling out the window... all easily ignored and have ZERO physical effect on anyone. Even flashing lights and honking don't directly affect anyone else. Just ignore the shit.

Road rage to me is intentionally cutting people off, brake checking, swerving/blocking lanes, speeding up to not let people pass, intentionally driving slow, throwing trash out of their windows, etc.

Anything that affects another driver's actions directly.
13337499, But it is road rage though

Extreme cases of aggressive driving can escalate to road rage. Examples of road rage are:
Cursing and rude or obscene gestures
Throwing objects
Ramming
Sideswiping
Forcing a driver off the road
13337511, There's a CLEAR difference between the first and the last four:

2. Throwing objects

4. Sideswiping
5. Forcing a driver off the road

The last four are literal crimes, even if someone isn't driving. The first isn't.

Again, hurt feelings isn't a valid reason to assault, attack or intimidate anyone. That list seems like BS.
13338484, Yet all four are unnecessary
Posted by spirit, Sun Jun-16-19 08:15 AM
There’s a clear difference between littering, assault, rape, and murder. That doesn’t mean you should litter.

Littering is. False equivalency.

How about that?
13337495, Cops parking any and everywhere in BK annoys the shit out of me.

theres supposedly some law theyre looking to pass in utah to prevent cops from masturbating and sexting while on duty and in their cop cars lol
13337524, I had to check my wife on that middle finger shit
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-10-19 11:45 AM
it ain’t that serious.

Fuck around and give it to the wrong person on the wrong day and get your car shot up.

My friend knew a preacher who got into it on the turnpike. Dude followed him for 100 miles. He went and got a gun permit after that incident.

13337528, yeah, I had to change my ways once I had kids. Folks crazy out here.

He thought he finally lost him for a minute and then dude crept by slowly in a Walmart parking lot.

13337533, People are crazy, tempers are high, guns are easily accessible

I concede all of those things and still generally refuse to live a life terrorized by that threat.
Not as a matter of smartness or even principle but just general exhaustion
The gymnastics we have to do to survive a day to day life aren’t equivalent to the actual threats we face.
We’re going to die of so many stress related illnesses
13337544, I would have to say giving someone the finger is more stressful
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-10-19 01:09 PM
than just driving around them and going on about your day.

Don’t get me wrong, I have my pet peeves about drivers in the left lane but life is so much easier when you put things in their right place.

13337535, ya my wife grew up in nyc, when she moved to texas
Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Mon Jun-10-19 12:42 PM
we had to have a talk about road rage thing

keep it to yourself in texas please lol

hell she was assaulted over some crazy road rage in NYC youd think she would have learned her lesson
13337545, My wife used to drive aggressive as hell
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-10-19 01:14 PM
but then are insurance rates went up when she grazed an 89 Astrovan.

Having kids was the best thing that ever happened to her driving habits.

It’s not about being first or balling out. Just get home safe. The fuck you so mad anyways?
13337546, I Used To Do That Shit
Posted by RexLongfellow, Mon Jun-10-19 01:17 PM
I remember following someone that cut me off from Denville to Secaucus, NJ (about 40 miles). I followed him all the way to his job. Got out and walked right behind him into his office building and got on the elevator with him. Didn't say a word, just stared at him. Once the 5th floor hit he ran to the phone to call security. I actually called out of my job that day because I was so pissed that he cut me off

I've calmed down a lot since then. Don't see the point in flipping the bird anymore. Just take the minor L and move on with life, especially now I got the little one in the car with me almost all the time
13337549, Bruh... wtf. lol
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-10-19 01:32 PM
Called off work?

13337554, Man, I Was So Mad
Posted by RexLongfellow, Mon Jun-10-19 01:42 PM
When dude cut me off, didn't even do the obligatory "my bad" wave. Just cut me off and kept going. I had to swerve to miss a truck.

That happened, I called my boss and said, I'm sick, can't come in. Then followed dude. I look back at it now and it was just funny because I never said a word to him, but followed him and just kept looking at dude when I got out the car and into the office building. When we was on the same elevator, I was like Bishop in Juice on the elevator, just ice-grilling him...lol

I was crazy with the rage. I actually pulled over in the middle of NY (7th Ave by Madison Square Garden) and banged on some cabbie's hood because he honked at me.

That was years ago though...now I'm soft...lol

Dude was tall too so it took him a while to slide down the side of the taxi
13338008, Back in the early 00s, a cab kept tailgating my on Broad Street...
Posted by flipnile, Wed Jun-12-19 03:35 PM
...I got pissed because he was killing my buzz with his lights, so I grabbed a handful of pennies out the ashtray and tossed them out the windows out over my roof. Heard the "clink" sounds of them bouncing off his hood. Felt like "yeah!" at the time, but a little later I felt like an asshole for doing that. Still do.
13337570, lol @ ‘cut me off’.....you dont own the road
Posted by seasoned vet, Mon Jun-10-19 02:42 PM
the cut me off accusation is such a bizarre one

Just for the psychos ready to run someone over or fight over their feelings getting hurt.

Mofos find any reason to get outraged. I've seen dudes looked pissed because their SUV/minivan couldn't keep up with my bike from a light. WTF were they expecting?
13337551, Yeah. Y’all get it the worst.

It’s so much easier for me, and hopefully frustrating for them that I can’t be bothered to get into it and might even be enjoying myself.

13338489, I wouldn't say "handled". that shit was the old & washed olympics
Posted by Cold Truth, Sun Jun-16-19 09:56 AM
I'm glad the right people wound up on the wrong side of this one, but this was an embarrassingly weak showing for everyone involved, on every possible level, right down to having kids il n both cars when they all made those choices.

The fighting itself was spectacular in its it's ineptitude. that's my opinion anyways, but the daughter of the Hispanic couple was going on and on about how badass her parents were and how badly the other two got beatdown, but the truth is they lucked out and got a more washed couple to rub their fat against.
13338492, oh it's awful and clumsy
Posted by Mynoriti, Sun Jun-16-19 01:03 PM
but i just really enjoy the shit out of how exited the truck like a nazi lowrider power couple. She winds up getting flattened. And he (after his hold me back act) literally starts pleading after barely being hit. Their kids waiting outside the car like they're the grown ups

On the Mexican side, wifey told him to stay in the car because she has no idea if he can fight because he hasn't been in a fight since before they met in 95, and that big white goof had some inches on him. She on the other hand was in a few more before they met in 95 and misses back in the day. Featherwood never stood a chance

Posted by spirit, Sun Jun-16-19 08:11 AM
If he was going too slow, honk once, wait a beat to see if he accelerates, then go around him. Both you and him apparently took your eyes off the road during this exchange. Even in stop and go traffic, that can lead to a fender bender. What’s the point of giving him the finger? Is he going to magically adopt your driving standards once he sees that?

I might yell out the window what somebody is doing wrong (in my opinion) but there’s no guarantee they’ll listen and it’s usually futile.
