13336440, Do you notice calorie counts at restaurants? Do they affect your choices?

I was craving some nachos. But I saw that 1700cals next to it and turned the page on the menu.
I'm don't really watch what I eat, but that is just so excessive.

13336443, I didn’t at first but lately
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-03-19 12:35 PM
and yeah, some of those appetizers are worse than meals.
13336446, somewhat
Posted by mista k5, Mon Jun-03-19 12:40 PM
definitely a lot more lately.
13336448, helps with portion control more so than changing what i order
Posted by sndesai1, Mon Jun-03-19 12:51 PM
like if it's some pasta that's 1500 calories, i'll eat 40% of it and take the rest home for my next two lunches instead of just going until i'm completely stuffed
13336475, This is a great idea.

Whole point of eating out is laziness and convenience..lol

and like tomjohn said below, if I’m going to five guys or some Mexican spot I already know so fuck it.. I’m going in.
13336478, Can I get a cheesesteak, cheese fries, slice of cheesecake
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-03-19 02:10 PM
and a diet soda!!!

Big dude in Philly ordered this and had me rolling.

Me: Diet Soda?
Big Boy: I like the taste.

13336451, Absolutely.

It's made me go with the lower-calorie option alot. Maybe most of the time I'm in those situations.
13336454, I don't really eat out at places that do that, but it can change my mind
Posted by Nodima, Mon Jun-03-19 01:01 PM
When I GrubHub and they offer that info, or get desperate during a hangover and hit the Wendy's up the block from me, I'll think something sounds interesting but order the old standby just because of the calorie/price ratio. I still only see a calorie count two or three times a month though I'd wager since I mostly eat at locally owned bistro and fine dining type spots where the whole idea is to relax and enjoy your meal not worry about its health ramifications.

13336456, Yep - more lately than ever.

Getting older and the fat is tougher to lose these days haha.

It's fine but at the same time I kinda hate it. If I'm in the mood for something I want to be able to get it and not have to feel guilty about that shit.

I also hate it cause calories are so variable. They're legit like a variable on top of a variable. Dependent on the person's metabolism, weight, height, body type, etc.
13336457, my pick of where to eat dictates what im going to do calorie wise
Posted by tomjohn29, Mon Jun-03-19 01:22 PM
if im going to Five Guys....im going all out
which is why i dont go often
13336463, i notice it. but im trying to eat like a mf for the gains
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Jun-03-19 01:37 PM
13336464, yes and yes
Posted by Damali, Mon Jun-03-19 01:40 PM
13336468, Absolutely. I'm indecisive when it comes to picking from a menu,
Posted by soulfunk, Mon Jun-03-19 01:47 PM
so if there's a big caloric difference between the two items I'm considering I'll pick the lower calorie option.
13336470, Carrot cake >>> 2000 calories
Posted by bentagain, Mon Jun-03-19 02:00 PM
Yeah...definitely changing some choices

Recently out to eat...and my group was pointing out how ridiculous the calories were for a slice of carrot cake

SMH

...and people probably ordered it prior because they got the impression carrot might be healthy...

LOL
13336477, 100% for me, especially if its a like a chain or sport bar kinda place
Posted by walihorse, Mon Jun-03-19 02:08 PM
13336481, yea
Posted by shygurl, Mon Jun-03-19 02:25 PM
I use a calories tracker to track my calories, so it depends where I'm at for the day. If I'm deep into it, I'mma choose the restaurant based on calories, and I would have googled the calorie count prior.
13336739, yep
Posted by RobOne4, Tue Jun-04-19 01:01 PM
i calorie count every day. But when i go out to eat i think of it as a cheat meal. But i will avoid those crazy 1800+ calorie meals. Like I aint touched biscuits and gravy for breakfast in a minute. Or a whole grandslam at dennys is like 1700+. So I just give my son the pancakes
13336754, yep. it definitely keeps from ordering outlandish things
Posted by Playa_Politician, Tue Jun-04-19 01:44 PM
I went to Cheesecake Factory for first time a few months back and everything on their menu 2k+ calories. it was crazy. had to order from the light menu which got negated by the cheesecake slice but it could've easily been worse.
13336762, That sounds like no fun. Might as well do the Grandpa Simpson
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-04-19 01:52 PM
at that place
13336811, Those counts are ALWAYS low too
Posted by handle, Tue Jun-04-19 04:24 PM
You know they throw extra grease/butter/mayo/fat on things.

But it can help you keep the calories in a sane-ish area sometimes.
13336881, Yeah. I aim for MORE calories since I'm trying to gain weight
Posted by flipnile, Wed Jun-05-19 09:12 AM
Where the calories are coming from are more important to me than how many. Things like rice & potatoes are two of my good calories, anything with HFCS I won't consume (for examples).
13336993, Absolutely

As the age goes up, the metabolism goes down. Not trying to get fat out here. It always helps to know. Especially for things like salads or starters you think are harmless but are actually sneaky fattening.
13337062, No... and I’ve been eating super clean lately...
Posted by ob1 kenobi, Thu Jun-06-19 01:25 AM
Trying not to worry about calorie, and concentrate more on what I’m eating. Been doing it for the past three months and feel great. Almost no bread, no dairy, very little sugar - and making sure protein and veggies get eaten.
