I ain't swiping the whole joint cause it's long, but the lede is below:

https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-politics-beto-orourke/

"Some things you might know about Beto O’Rourke, the former Texas congressman who just entered the race for president:

• The Democratic contender raised a record amount for a U.S. Senate race in 2018 and almost beat the incumbent in a Republican stronghold, without hiding his support for gun control and Black Lives Matter protests on the football field.

• When he was younger, he was arrested on drunk-driving charges and played in a punk band. Now 46, he still skateboards.

• The charismatic politician with the Kennedy smile is liberal on some issues and libertarian on others, which could allow him to cross the country’s political divide.

One thing you didn’t know: While a teenager, O’Rourke acknowledged in an exclusive interview, he belonged to the oldest group of computer hackers in U.S. history."
13320085, lol @ em glossin over his DWI and burglary charges dat he just
Posted by _explain555, Fri Mar-15-19 02:45 PM

miraculously got out of both times

but yay he skateboards

13320096, dude can skate(board) any charges
Posted by mista k5, Fri Mar-15-19 03:15 PM
if you do any research into it beto admits he was arrested, he explains what happened and more importantly there has been no arrests since then. dude made mistakes, learned and 20 years later is doing what he can for society.

your google is broken?

have a short attention span?

In August 2017, more recently, O’Rourke described the arrests to an East Texas newspaper. The Palestine Herald-Press quoted him saying: "Some 20 years ago, I was charged with driving under the influence and, during my college years, I jumped a fence at the University of Texas at El Paso which resulted in a burglary charge," O'Rourke said. "I was not convicted of either.

"Both incidents were due to poor judgement and I have no excuse for my behavior then. However, since then, I have used my opportunities to serve my community and my state. I'm grateful for the second chance and believe that we all deserve second chances."

details on the "burglary" (hoping a fence at school)
The Times further reported that court records showed that O’Rourke earlier was arrested in 1995 at UTEP on a burglary of building charge, which was later dropped. O’Rourke told the paper: "That happened while I was in college. I along with some friends were horsing around, and we snuck under the fence at the UTEP physical plant and set off an alarm. We were arrested by UTEP police. ... UTEP decided not to press charges. We weren't intending to do any harm," he was quoted saying.

the dwi (stupid stupid thing to do)
According to the story, O'Rourke was arrested on a DWI charge in September 1998 that was dismissed in 1999 after he completed a court-recommended DWI program. "I've been open about that since the very beginning. I have owned up to it and I have taken responsibility for it," O’Rourke told the paper.

You're missing the point

His daddy was a judge in TX = YT privilege

ITWABM, he'd have a criminal record.
13320110, imagine being this person all the time

you probably tell yourself you're insightful

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
13320116, dude has admitted he committed crimes
Posted by mista k5, Fri Mar-15-19 03:46 PM
the "burglary" was not any sort of robbery...maybe trespassing. i doubt most people would be charge but i could see it happening to some.

the dwi was so stupid of him to do. very bad judgement. he went to court he complied with a court ordered action to get the charge dismissed.

ive done that with speeding tickets (less serious but still stupid of me)

i know for a fact in this city DWIs were not treated with enough seriousness in the 90s. my non-white father got minimal consequences for his first few of them. his father wasnt even alive for many of them so i know thats not how he got out of them.

what is your concern with beto and his criminal charges? is his dead father going to get him out of future trouble?? has he continued making these stupid choices because he knows he can get off with minimal punishment?

will you only vote for someone who has never been charged with a crime?

will you even vote?
13320119, so we're claiming teenage hi-jinx at 26Y.O...?

As a candidate my issue is...what has he done?

MFers got all moist after a speech in a black church

Falling all over themselves for the next Bobby Kennedy Obama

I think you can see the differences in the career accomplishments

The issue with the arrests...well, I've already stated that I don't think he 'skates' if he wasn't a yt privileged male

?
13320122, not teenage
Posted by mista k5, Fri Mar-15-19 04:09 PM
unfortunately you got dudes in they 40s/50s still doing stupid things like those.

dude learned and changed. if you read the vanity piece there were much bigger concerns brought up and some pretty clear examples of his father actually doing some shady stuff.

bringing up his dwi is so what about her emails though.

does he have privilege, yes. is that fair? no. does it disqualify him? no.

i was cooling so much on beto but these trolls are making me defend him lol

i do have concerns on if he will actually get anything done, and a lesser concern of how sincere he is on some of these issues.

inexperience or lack of accomplishments is not an issue.

i need to see him actually announce what policies he is going to focus on. i know i will support the immigration reform stance he takes..unless he does a massive flop on it, in which case i would be done with him. prison reform i also expect him to be strong on. income inequality he will probably be okay, healthcare he might cave too much.

there are some substantive concerns people should have with beto, his dwi is not one.

13320162, you misunderstood me
Posted by mista k5, Fri Mar-15-19 05:58 PM
i was saying how many accomplishments he has or how many terms and which positions he has held are not the most important factors to me.

if accomplishments were the metric i dont know how all the candidates would rank.
13320200, So no policy accomplishments as an elected official that translate
Posted by bentagain, Sat Mar-16-19 09:51 AM
to the major policy platform this cycle like criminal justice reform, income inequality, gnd, m4a, etc...

Lost his last election

Criminal record. Even the OP tying him to a hacker organization implies illegality

...and you're trying to convince me he's not a product of yt privilege...

Liking the cut of his jib and being able to read a script are the only qualities being offered.
13320120, I've heard stories/jokes about TX
Posted by Stadiq, Fri Mar-15-19 04:07 PM

and dwi/open container stuff as recently as like ten years ago.

I'm not one to discount the impact of white male privilege, but I've heard some shit from TX residents about stuff like that too. (I admit I can't recall WHERE in TX, but still doesn't surprise me to hear (read) it confirmed by you...)

13320144, I need to see video of him skateboarding, or i call bullshit

Would you say HRC had more charisma than Bern?
13320938, Bruh, she lost to Obama AND Trump

and needed a huge head start and the DNC chair cheating for her to get past Bernie.

how it is.

Likability is a huge factor. Is it fair? No.

But do we really want to die on that hill?

I'm not big on Beto personally, but if he is the best shot to beat Trump then lets ride.
