#BoondocksBack The following message is from Aaron Mcgruder. “Did these for fun (and to see if I still could). More to come… exactly how much more is tough to say. These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show - and he’s a busy guy. Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me while I get my instagram act together.” AM

guess Aaron is putting an IG for it together?

13311996, I miss MacGruder's voice

But I don't know, it felt like something that was so of it's time, it feels weird if it comes back.
13312015, cool

13312025, the new artist is much better
Posted by Selah, Wed Feb-06-19 10:54 AM
although it kinda looks too slick (I preferred the more unpolished look)

the jokes? meh. about what one would expect

it appears he's continuing in the more pg-13 range, which is what it is, but I really do miss when it was a simpler story about actual Black kids in a "fish out of water" environment and less a Black Doonesbury with cussing
13312035, Yeah, that was a good couple of years

Easy to forget that there was a whole story line where Huey and Riley were waiting for the first Star Wars prequel and Grandad volunteered to be a census taker.
13312041, oh god the controversy
Posted by double negative, Wed Feb-06-19 11:23 AM
13312058, quaint, right?
Posted by Selah, Wed Feb-06-19 11:45 AM
there actually was controversy

then 9-11 hit and the innocence was lost (r.i.p "flaggy"...or was it "flaggie")
13312037, i'd take a weekly

>the jokes? meh. about what one would expect

feel like they should take advantage of IG letting you post 10 images to actually construct a narrative and build to the joke

or at least not try and cram 4 panels into one image.
13312055, thats actually a good idea
Posted by Selah, Wed Feb-06-19 11:43 AM
trying to find a way to play with the format, that is

i wonder if he is that invested though, as opposed to this being a lark that he may toy with occasionally

especially considering he solicited someone else (who by his own words is a busy cat) to actually do the artwork for these

can't call it

i *DO* find it fascinating that CTG is the one who he filtered these through

i wouldn't have assumed these two were tight like *that* (although if ya gotta pick somebody with the intent of making a splash, picking someone with a high profile is wise)
13312085, most illustrators who do IG comics use the slideshow
Posted by hardware, Wed Feb-06-19 12:10 PM
but yeah i can't tell how invested he is in IG despite it really being the best way of distributing it. There's no real way to monetize it on IG tho so that's a whole time expense for an intangible return.
13312163, CTG talks about him and Aaron being pretty tight on The Brilliant Idiots.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Feb-06-19 02:32 PM
edit: i remember being surprised the first time i heard him mention it because i kind of forgot about Aaron.
13312048, Seung Eun Kim, supervising director of The Boondocks from 05-08

13312051, right. caught that when he wrote

"These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show"
13312032, dope. i wish these worked standalone. the jokes don't land.
Posted by hardware, Wed Feb-06-19 11:08 AM
but i'll take what i can get

i kinda feel like Boondocks graduated to longform storytelling now.
13312034, one of the main reasons i checked OKP daily back in the day
Posted by wrecknoble, Wed Feb-06-19 11:10 AM
i'll be extremely happy if this turns into a daily IG cartoon strip
13312153, same
Posted by walihorse, Wed Feb-06-19 02:19 PM
I would check the front page then the boards
13312167, OKP IG actually posted the whole narrative

The bit works better now
13312197, what are you talking about? there is absolutely no additional context there
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Feb-06-19 03:57 PM
everything is in the op/cthagod's post
13312198, ah. i was looking at CTG post in the browser
Posted by hardware, Wed Feb-06-19 03:58 PM
the little dots weren't showing up. DISREGARD
13312202, man web IG is the struggle
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Feb-06-19 04:07 PM
i was looking at these posts last night before i made this thread like "what am i missing here" then i saw the little slideshow icon when i went back to CTGs page.
13312205, man, i gotta take back everything i said before this post
