13305821, Rappers sampling themselves
Posted by mista k5, Thu Jan-10-19 11:32 AM
why is the binary star album(s) light years apart so dope?? the whole album samples binary star lyrics or reuses lines and it works sooooo well. it also works great when he reuses/samples other rappers lines in it.

who else has done this well? i know a lot of rappers samples other rappers but how many sample themselves? nas comes to mind.

what are some good examples?
13305823, early nwa and cube did this all the time

13305866, biggie definitely came to mind

13305829, EPMD, Slick Rick, Audio Two, MC Lyte, to name a few.

It's always been common, even before the days of sample clearances.
13305831, Rakim - "Follow the Leader" and "In The Ghetto" came to mind first. n/m

Did it all the time with gang starr

and he would always cut lyrics from his older productions into his new works

i thought it was a genius way of getting other labels to have to pay him to license his own shit lol. but maybe he did it because he wouldn’t have to clear
13306023, im wondering how much it is to save money lol

13306059, That's The Same Thing I Was Thinking As Far As Clearing Samples

It was just easier to use those songs he produced or artists he's worked with numerous times, cause it would be less problems, but, BUT, what I remember from an interview he did, Premier uses vocals he remembers hearing songs from often is basically what it boils down to, he wasn't do it on purpose to pick songs he produced or artists he's worked with before.

13306019, Nas has a few songs that do this..

Which is great as they were dope lyrics in the first place.

I love when this type of resampling of the rappers lyrics are done. I think it tends to be older school mc’s who do it.. Let’s not have Lil Uzi Vert start thinking his rhymes are worth revisiting.
13306057, the message was one of the first songs to come to mind.

Deltron 3030's "Postive Contact" samples from Del's "Worldwide."
13306279, Memory Loss samples from Catch A Bad One, right?

13306275, this works because we like familiar stuff right?
Posted by mista k5, Fri Jan-11-19 04:15 PM
obviously the original has to be good but it could be a line you never paid much attention to and when you hear it sample it just clicks.

the more you hear something the more you like it until its too much.

pitching his vocals down from Uptown Roamers on Nike Boots was dope. And then Uptown Roamers hook has a sample from Dig Dug
