13302809, What are your fasting practices?
Posted by hip bopper, Wed Dec-19-18 10:47 AM
Is health the main reason? Is it spiritual?

How long do you fast for and how do you break your fast?

Hopefully y’all don’t thrown down a full course meal when you’re breaking your fast... lol.
13302817, I.F. every morning
Posted by Amritsar, Wed Dec-19-18 11:14 AM
Been doing so for over a decade now

I give my body a rest from the time I first wake up til lunchtime. Drink a shit ton of water and that usually kills the hunger

13302825, So what is your cutoff time to stop eating for the day...
Posted by hip bopper, Wed Dec-19-18 11:37 AM

13302829, I.F....16/8 protocol...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Dec-19-18 11:51 AM
do it without even thinking, at this point. Just my lifestyle. I rarely even get hungry before my feeding window.
13302830, unintentionally i eat like 12:30-11pm
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Dec-19-18 11:52 AM
i know it's not supposed to be that late but i usually sit down for dinner around like 8 and i usually like a snack before bed some nights. if not i'm done around 8. i've just never liked to eat first thing in the morning so that's how that came about.
13302989, 16/8 feels good
Posted by fif, Wed Dec-19-18 07:56 PM
more you do it, easier it is. almost 5pm here on my day off and ive only had black coffee. still need to figure out a good rhythm for my new work schedule.

i want to try some extended longer duration fasts. longest i've gone is a little over 24 hours.
13302990, to answer the why
Posted by fif, Wed Dec-19-18 07:58 PM
mental clarity and energy stability is reason number one.

it also leans me up very quickly. does seem to make the body make muscle better. there are rodent models showing this is the case.

it feels good not to be wasting energy digesting all the damn time.
13302991, Have you all done it for reasons other than intermittent fasting?
Posted by hip bopper, Wed Dec-19-18 08:12 PM
Usually I fast for spiritual reasons and my fast can go on for at least 7 days. I am always on the go so intermittent fasting never works for me.
13302996, I like to be in a fasted state of clarity
Posted by fif, Wed Dec-19-18 09:02 PM
Before taking psychedelics.

What sort of spiritual practices are you doing? Meditation?
13302997, Prayer is a major part in conjunction with fasting for me.

>What sort of spiritual practices are you doing? Meditation?

I always use that time period for praying and meditating on God. Praying to be more like Him. Leaning on Him for strength. Meditating on good things and good deeds that can be done. You always seem to get better clarity when you go through a long fast.
13302998, Are you talking about the Christian God?
Posted by fif, Wed Dec-19-18 09:32 PM
Which texts do you find useful?
13303018, I am from the Quran as well as scripture
Posted by hip bopper, Thu Dec-20-18 07:19 AM
The Quran says:

2:183 O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint

A text from scripture:

To worship God. Luke 2 tells the story of an 84-year-old prophetess named Anna. Verse 37 says, “She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.” Anna was devoted to God, and fasting was one expression of her love for Him.

Fasting is always used as worship towards God and to draw closer. It can be useful for repentance and to make important decisions. It doesn’t necessarily have to be abstaining from food. It can be things that you do on a day-to-day basis. Since food is a necessity then that is the main thing that people go for. Social media is another thing that people gravitate towards that you can “fast” from doing. You can set meat aside for a set period of time and just do fruits and vegetables. The object is not only to become closer to God, but to gain clarity, renewed vigor, and self-control.
13303702, Thank you

Yes, i think fasting can help people change their minds for the better. Acquisitive patterns of thought may fade. Gets us away from the pleasure chase, the need for new distractors. Best of luck making good use of it.

Eating window is about 9hrs..

Has been extremely effective in maintaining and dropping weight ESPECIALLY on tour.. It's allowed me to not just go buy bullshit when we stop at a pilot
13303169, 19 days of fasting sunrise to sunset every March
Posted by unity, Thu Dec-20-18 03:24 PM
since i was 15
https://www.bahai.org/beliefs/life-spirit/devotion/fasting

i usually break my fast with (room temp) water or tea
and then later have a regular dinner

it tends to bring greater mental and spiritual clarity and enhances happiness--even though i dread waking up before dawn. lol.
