So did he relive the attack on NY and Ultron? Did he take over the Frozen caps place? Did he teleport back into that timeline?

I was understanding that it would have been a different timeline, so him going back and staying with Peggy wouldn't have altered the timeline we were watching. I see why it was chosen, but I didn't like it.
