13299609, True story, I just got my head jacked up by a new barber
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Nov-30-18 10:17 AM
I am walking down my block and see this commotion and all the people surrounding this dude. I was standing there watching and someone said, "you want a pic with him?". Despite the jacked haircut I said sure. I live by Barclay's so I figured it was a fighter but had to go on FB to figure out who he was.

Posted by Numba_33, Fri Nov-30-18 02:27 PM
He had an up close and personal view of that crime scene of a haircut given his proximity to you and his height, and he still took that photo with you.

I do wonder how grueling that press run for this fight has been.
13299743, LOL. What's funny is that in the glory days of this site...

there would 100+ jokes about my haircut alone.

13299673, Reporter said “you say your people have been fighting for 400 years”
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Nov-30-18 12:14 PM
Like he ain’t one of us.

13299674, Wilder's a real one - and is criminally slept on as an athlete
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Nov-30-18 12:16 PM
for context: Fury was up there facing off against Wilder and talking about the struggles that gypsies have gone through in the past 200 years (Fury descends from a Gypsy lineage that immigrated to England) - and that's what set Wilder off - and rightfully so. Both Fury & Wilder are known for speaking their mind and showing unfiltered emotion - and Wilder has one of the strongest, compassionate hearts in the sport - and also one of the most ferocious in protecting his integrity.

This was a powerful moment of raw, genuine emotion. Radio Rahim held a follow-up interview with Wilder that cooled the fires - but Rahim shouldn't have acted brand new in this clip.

Wilder by brutal KO tomorrow night.

-->
13299697, Wait. The reporters name is Radio Rahim?
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Nov-30-18 12:48 PM
I thought he was using Radio Rahim from the movie as an example of how cops kill Black folk.

13299717, I dead thought he was just clownin that nigga.
Posted by IkeMoses, Fri Nov-30-18 01:26 PM
13299725, Same

I thought he was on some "You out here getting yoked up by the cops and you don't understand me!??!"
13299728, What's brilliant is him just saying his name still communicated all that.

-->
13299729, YOUR people
Posted by Selah, Fri Nov-30-18 02:01 PM
that was the kicker

asking him to explain for those who are unaware - had that been what he was doing - could have been handled much better
13299720, Wilder wtf we need right now yo.He like Kap Bron n Ali in one athlete
Posted by _explain555, Fri Nov-30-18 01:30 PM

lol

peace to deray but its somethin bout a 7 ft tall heavyweight fighter meanmuggin spittin some real ass black liberation shit dat command respect

we could use a leader wit dat energy
13299721, we need him to handle Fury so we can get that Wilder/Joshua fight
Posted by IkeMoses, Fri Nov-30-18 01:33 PM
13299732, Wilder will handle his business. Joshua shamefully ducked him once
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Nov-30-18 02:04 PM
Wilder-Joshua was supposed to happen earlier this year but Eddie Hearn (Joshua's promoter) balked and opted for easier prey to milk another 2-3 monstrous fight purses - but if Wilder wins tomorrow (which he will) - they will not be able to retain any credibility until they make Joshua-Wilder happen.

-->
13299735, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are both so skilled
Posted by Numba_33, Fri Nov-30-18 02:19 PM
I truly wouldn't mind either dude winning tomorrow to get the chance to face Anthony Joshua. I have the utmost respect for both dudes.

If Fury tried to ride that MAGA wave to inflame the racial differences between himself and Wilder, I'm sure I wouldn't sing that tune.
13299747, I respect Fury. But Wilder/Joshua is FIGHT OF THE 21ST CENTURY status
Posted by IkeMoses, Fri Nov-30-18 02:48 PM
13299730, yea I think it's irresponsible of American media to not cover this man
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Nov-30-18 02:01 PM
For years (decades even) - everyone's been lambasting about not having an American star-caliber personality/talent in the HW division.

Wilder is the genuine article: super athletic, biggest puncher in the sport, 95%+ KO ratio, charismatic with a movie-like story (grew up in Alabama, came from nothing, daughter battled spina bifida as he worked up the ranks to provide for his family - tremendous gift of gab, entertaining as could be etc...)

The fact that US media has basically shunned his ascent is malpractice. Wilder is absolutely correct when he says that he'd be the biggest name in the sport if he was born in England. They know how to promote their own there (Joshua is selling out 80k stadiums and is a monstrous star in the UK/Europe).

HW boxing is back - but the US sports media is stuck on some 30-year old narrative and stubbornly doesn't want to accept it.

-->
13299749, it's baffling. talent, charisma, story, international competition
Posted by IkeMoses, Fri Nov-30-18 02:51 PM
it's all there.

he should be a household name already.
13299753, agreed although I am glad they didn't blow him up too early either
Posted by PG, Fri Nov-30-18 02:55 PM
he had some growth and development to get in that could've suffered with to much of a spotlight imo... but we're talking a time long since past and there is no doubt he's been slept on for the better part of the decade.

I forget what fight it was I first saw I believe it was his first televised one almost 10 years ago.. you could see it right away but I'm glad they didn't rush him.

then there was the whole knocking out trolls in their home gym thing... lol classic but had me shaking my head for a minute.. but he's proven himself many times over since all that imo.. I was seriously impressed with his handling of Ortiz and am skeptical of Tyson's chances... but I've discounted Tyson before to the point of being dead wrong about him.

the styles could make this the awkwardest fight in a loooooooong minute imo.
13299687, i felt that

Give and take.
13300167, What was BS about it?
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Dec-03-18 10:08 PM
13300257, The idea that there is a "problem with black folks"
Posted by Hitokiri, Tue Dec-04-18 12:51 PM
the pathologizing of black people
the idea that black folks are monolithic
the implied respectability politics

Any time your statement is "what's wrong with black people" or "the problem with black people" and not "the problem FOR black folk" whatever comes next is likely bullshit.
13300333, Well, he’s a boxer
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Dec-04-18 04:43 PM
I heard what he was trying to say

13300338, It's usually either or, most people don't stand on both soapboxes
Posted by bentagain, Tue Dec-04-18 05:18 PM
OP clip sounds like he believes black people are victims of systemic oppression...

...followed up with 'black on black, pull yourself up by the bootstraps logic

If he truly believes in the first line of reasoning, that would explain the 2nd

Black people have been oppressed and that leads to the behavior he described

You can't resolve the behavior without addressing the cause

My $.02

But like you said,he does get punched in the head for a living.
13300437, if the first line is why the second issue exist
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Dec-05-18 11:52 AM
it doesn’t mean we can speak on it

I don’t have a problem with either line because I think both are true and we have to continue to work on ourselves s a people regardless of how damaged we are due to WS
13300380, No doubt. That's why I don't look to him for insight on anything
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Dec-05-18 09:49 AM
I'm just saying that while that statement he made in the OP is dope, he'll also say BS like this. And bentagain is entirely correct.
