And you missed the best example of it's use by Jeff Goldblum in Deep Cover.
But it means you can not posses a cake AND eat the cake. The act of eating the cake diminishes the cake.
Now, if you say "I can go by some more cake" then bully for you, fuckface. You've missed the point.
