13292188, I am pretty annoyed this morning
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 11:04 AM
realized in the morning that i forgot to wash my coffee mug and press. forgot to put my water bottles in the freezer.

got some bummer news on the way to work.

coworker reminded me why shes so annoying and why i dislike coming in to work.

nothing good to read.

love how apple shows you an app on your mac but your shortcuts still apply to the app you just minimized while trying to be incognito.

its great how websites decide to keep a video you dont want to watch playing and showing no matter how much scrolling you do. its even better that the website panics and throws a giant splash screen at you if you move your mouse too quick.

and where is PG???????
13292189, yeah, seriously
Posted by KiloMcG, Tue Oct-16-18 11:06 AM

>and where is PG???????

i certainly see why you are annoyed today, good gracious.
13292191, canadians i tell you
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 11:08 AM
13292193, me too...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 11:10 AM
I sent a bid to a client and she didn’t like it. ain’t no one I’m sending our guys out...for all the work she wants performed... for $1000. It’s commercial so I know she’s getting a grip for the work.

she all but cussed me out...

13292194, yikes
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 11:14 AM
i do not like dealing with customers.

whats worse than customers though is cust reps that dont do their job correctly. they send you a request for something they dont understand. cant tell you what you need to do, just that the customer wants something.

i did have a pleasant call with a customer last week. they wanted to reorder an old item but had some questions on our capabilities. i sent back an explanation of what options there were. he called back and was glad i understood his concerns and that i was able to explain to him our options. "nice to work with a professional" he said.

hmm
13292254, I had a hard time communicating with my web developer...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 12:56 PM
he was talking too technical
when I told him I was clueless on the process
he still didn’t get it
then I sent stuff in a word doc
still didn’t get it
instead of 10 days to develop the site
It took 30

It’s finally done but damn, it was hard work
after all that I chould have done it myself lol

13292257, communication can be hard
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 01:00 PM
especially if youre not too versed on the technical and always on design with non-design oriented folks.

the developer definitely needs to find a way to bridge that gap and communicate effectively with all types of customers.

did the developer promise 10 days??? is that a completed site from nothing to live?

not my specialty but that seems unreasonable aggressive if so.
13292265, That's why BAs exist. Developers, for the most part, don't have that gene...
Posted by Creole, Tue Oct-16-18 01:07 PM

>the developer definitely needs to find a way to bridge that
>gap and communicate effectively with all types of customers.
>

LOL

The ones I have dealt with typically don't know how to and don't want to talk directly with customers.
13292275, my therapist asked me...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 01:26 PM
“how do you think, you think”...

Its a process for me
things make sense when there’s some order to it
can’t sit me with a group of folks to brainstorm
I’ll be the person taking notes
then come back and present the order of things...

it’s what I did for this guy.
it was a sample template
all he had to do was plug in the images and wording
I couldn’t understand how someone could mess that up...

one earth...a billion realities, lol

13292322, Yup!
Posted by Creole, Tue Oct-16-18 02:40 PM

>one earth...a billion realities, lol
13292269, yes.10 days was the promise...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 01:12 PM
I ended up escalating it to the manager.
I felt bad about it in the end
yet, I had too because it wasn’t working...

techs can be some of the best conversationist
I love them...just not working together on a project lol

my mind, mixed with theirs, is a dangerous combination lol
13292346, conversation =/= communication
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 04:37 PM
if they promised 10 days they should had delivered in 10 days. now with those 10 days they should had specified specific parameters.

if a costumer keeps changing their mind after each revision or in the middle of the process some leeway is entitled.

without knowing the details i think the developer promised too much. you would be a challenge to understand based off a convo alone. i would expect to need to show you a few quick mock ups as a follow to make sure i understood what you needed.

seeing that you said there was a manager i dont understand how they allowed a 10 day promise to go to 30. i was thinking this was an independent developer.

glad its done though :)
13292262, 10 days is too tight for anything other than Wordpress, etc.
Posted by flipnile, Tue Oct-16-18 01:06 PM
Even with a quick and dirty Wordpress site, 10 days is pushing it. Also, your dev should be able to communicate better. It's his job to figure out what you want and build it for you.
13292229, Man, I snapped at work yesterday. Wisely went straight home.
Posted by flipnile, Tue Oct-16-18 12:21 PM
Mofos talked, laughed, walked around and banged on shit for hours straight. Saw red after a while, immediately bounced.

One of the loud dickheads I write about thought it was a good idea to spray paint some stencil shit on paper in the fire escape stairwell. I'm walking up the stairs smelling that shit (the stairs are used to go between floors here). Tired of being around these buffoons.

Got a small, part-time business I'm starting. Just grabbed the URL over the weekend. Gotta get these roots down now so that I can GTFOOH.

Fall cleaning of the house is going well. The house is gonna be right this winter.
13292240, what do you mean snapped
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 12:36 PM
did you say something to someone?
13292245, Kept it to myself, but I was thinking about cussing people out
Posted by flipnile, Tue Oct-16-18 12:44 PM
Too seriously. My body was telling me "fuck this shit" so my brain pressed the escape button and I went outside for a long walk, then went home. Today, I hot-desked so I don't have to be near the clowns in my office. Their work habits are objectively shitty, but since they do design they can get away will bullshitting around 7 of the 8 work hours in the day. I can't, I'm a programmer.

At the least, they just don't give a fuck (for example: mofos stand and have loud conversations 5ft behind me, literally). At the most, they do it intentionally. Either way, I'm a 40yo man with a pretty strong tech skill set. None of the higher ups can help me, either (desk space is tight, apparently). If they were having heated discussions about color theory, the golden ratio, etc. I'd understand but it's always a loud conversation about donuts, taco tuesdays or some other bullshit.

Anyway, I know better than to show any negative emotions in the office. I take a lot of walks to blow off steam.

I'm 100% actively working on replacing my job with working for myself.
13292248, more of an internal snap then
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 12:51 PM
thats good but i guess bad for you in the long run. you always want to keep your cool at work but it is not good to keep that stress inside.

its amazing how different i felt working last week. there were moments where a lot of work that i was not familiar with had to be done but i didnt mind it. now that my coworker is back and taking care of her stuff i feel more stressed.

i seriously want to ask to be moved but who knows if that ends up being a worse situation. maybe i will pick one thing to ask the coworker to tone down or stop.

hopefully you can get your part time business into a full blown gig quick.
13292258, Thanks, man. I'm in a great mood today.
Posted by flipnile, Tue Oct-16-18 01:00 PM
It's quiet where I'm sitting now. No one walking back and forth in the aisle behind me, etc. Just been hammering out work. It's 2pm EST already? Seems like I just got here, lol.

Amazing how much a desk in a bad spot can affect our moods.
13292455, constant traffic can be distracting
Posted by infin8, Wed Oct-17-18 09:59 AM
'the trough' is right outside my desk - where all the food goes, and these folks LOVE to eat.

My work doesn't require a lot of concentration tho'.
13293157, I relate to this

13292259, I started fall cleaning over the weekend...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 01:03 PM
my place looks like a bomb hit it...
I peek out the door when there’s a knock
can’t let them see this mess lol

I wanna take my time to...
dust
change my decor
move furniture
paint

13292268, This is how my place looks. Like a tornado rolled through

>my place looks like a bomb hit it...

I'm pulling EVERYTHING out because I've accepted that I have hoarder tendencies. Saving random things like "I can use this one day." The downside of being a DIY guy. Slowly trashing things. Plus, I'm like you I want to take my time and get that deep clean.
13292279, lol. I’m all for decluttering...
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 01:32 PM
my closet was the hardest.
I love fall/winter styling
it was very hard to part with things
so I didn’t
I promised myself that if I didn’t wear it this year
come summer it must go...

13292291, Bruh. You Philly to the core. Lmao
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Oct-16-18 01:49 PM
Y’all niggas always mad.

I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t laugh but it reminds me of my time in center city. Niggas be made at the way you hold your coffee while walking down the ave.
13292577, One of my favorite things is seeing another angry dude...
Posted by flipnile, Wed Oct-17-18 01:37 PM
...and we grit on each other for a second before we head nod or give a "'sup, bruh?" It's like bonding by being mad together for a brief second, lol.
13292233, RE: I am pretty annoyed this morning because I got 5 days left here but...
Posted by Creole, Tue Oct-16-18 12:24 PM
wanna be gone now to start getting that quan from the new spot.

And because I wanna be sitting somewhere chilling with a cigar and this Travis Scott album blasting from some speakers.
13292256, oh. so you took the job?
Posted by Trinity444, Tue Oct-16-18 12:57 PM
**throws confetti**
13292260, I did. The person bringing me back actually decided to leave. So, I was...
Posted by Creole, Tue Oct-16-18 01:04 PM
offered her job and given the bread (and her corner office) that goes with it.

So, I'm ready to leave this janky joint and get to it. LOL

And THANK YOU for the confetti!
13292264, aaaah didnt know what you meant, congrats!
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 01:07 PM
that sounds awesome

funny how easily it is to stop caring about a current job when you got the next one lined up.

i remember just shrugging off anything that came up in my last week. like, if it gets done it gets done.
13292270, Thanks! There's a big meeting in the pit every week and it happens right in...
Posted by Creole, Tue Oct-16-18 01:12 PM
front of my desk. They play allof this cheesy ass pop music to get people hyped before the meeting. I'm gonna walk out right as they start. My order of avocado toast is waiting on me.

Plus, I don't give a flying f about none of what they wanna talk about.

To hell with that release planning scheduled for tomorrow.
Write your own damned user stories and acceptance criteria, you non-committed bamma!

13292347, lol
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 04:41 PM
my last job started showing motivational videos at production meetings. mind you, many times it was spanish text over american movies screen grabs. all right off of youtube. each single time they would spend a good 5 minutes trying to get the video and audio working.

i think one time it was a work out motivation video.

i attend 0 scheduled meetings a month here :)
13292298, Had my review today. Everything is going well at the new gig
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Oct-16-18 01:52 PM
Only problem is I’m so used to the shitty ways at my old gig that I’m constantly looking over my shoulder or expecting the worst. It’s amazing what a good work environment feels like after a bad one. Almost feels like a set up.

Have to get my hands dirty this week and start digging in on my side shit.
13292348, thats me all the time hear

even after a year, i keep expecting some bad news. a little bit of PTSD from the old gig.

glad everything is going well.

Posted by tully_blanchard, Tue Oct-16-18 03:15 PM
Got offered a Territorial Sales Manager job where I currently work (in medical sales), but due to my "Carolina Connection", I'll be based out of Charlotte. The Kid and the wife are staying in the A...that sucks, but I don't wanna uproot The Kid again. Plus she'd kill me. So I'm looking for furninshed one room apartments.

The curve ball? The job I applied for over the summer and didnt get..the woman that interviewed me just resigned and put my name and resume on the hiring managers desk. That job would keep me here, and the salary is comfortable, but abotu 10 grand less than the Charlotte job...but me and the wife need some space right now...but I dont wanna leave The Kid...

Tough situation to be in. Best of wishes to you, your marriage, and your kid.
13292349, thats a tough situation
Posted by mista k5, Tue Oct-16-18 04:46 PM
would it make sense to get an apt in Atl (?) and take that gig? i know carolinas to atlanta is a manageable drive but being right there might be worth the 10k difference. depends on difference of cost in apts though.

looking at the other side, maybe moving gives you a fresh perspective and the 10k allows you to see the kid in a more controlled and enjoyable manner. having that real space might do you some good.

good luck!
13292406, Already got an apt in the A...looking for a crib in Charlotte...
Posted by tully_blanchard, Wed Oct-17-18 07:36 AM
But yeah...I think after you take the emotion out of the situation, it would be. My whole family is still in Charlotte, and 90% of my friends, so I'll be able to crash somewhere and stack loot for about 6-8 months, make it back to the A every weekend..sometimes three day weekends, and hang with The Kid.

13292341, Fighting seizures against 18 hour days
Posted by Kira, Tue Oct-16-18 04:07 PM
By fighting mean doing everything in my power to rest enough to avoid seizures.

Allegedly, if you cut yourself and then take an edible it absorbs faster.......

300 mg of raspberry lemonade drink is bad for people as its hard to do anything..

Getting ready for black friday trying to come up on everything with my list secured. I need another two years of PSN plus on my account for $70.

Prepping for tech certifications is time consuming and difficult but worth it. Bout to cram for an exam that costs $300 and pass it with less than eight weeks prep.

Is anyone else's brain fried this afternoon or is it just me?

13292350, wowza

Posted by PG, Fri Oct-19-18 02:47 PM
not to mention worrying about our guy Kira!!! Sheebus man take it easy that ish sounds scary..

tully yo that's a toughy leaving the Kid but it sounds like you'll be able to be round on the weekends or more which is good... more than I get in

Flip and Legs that philly convo reminds of a scene in the movie Once Were Warriors where to big Maori dudes are standing at a bar a few feet away from each other mean mugging an looking tough surveying the rest of the bar and then they see each other and there's a moment of anger bonding just like you describe. It's probably the only comical moment in that whole dismal but excellent flick.

good to be missed and good to see the crew get it in regardless.

Happy Friday we fricking made it.. I only did 2.5 days this week but it's felt like a good 7 at points.. especially in the afternoon just feeling sapped.
13293047, heres to hoping youre all better come tomorrow morning
