13289550, BET is making a Bell Biv Devoe (BBD) biopic...

I meant to post this last week...

BOBBY BROWN ANNOUNCES ‘BBD BIOPIC’ DURING RBRM TOUR

Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike "RBRM" Announce BBD Biopic In The Works

I'm not seeing a lot of news coverage about this. It's another BET/Viacom production, of course. The New Edition Story was wildly successful. I guess the network/NE is going to milk it for what it's worth.

I don't know, man...
13289551, As many Beatles biopics that's been regurgitated, I'm cool with this.

I hear what you're saying. But it's about time black artists from our childhood gets proper recognition in film and Television. Long overdue.

I don't pay attention to the Beatles EVER. Like, I didn't even know their biopics existed. LOL.

I feel you, tho; I'm just disappointed in The Bobby Brown Story. And I'm realizing that biopics are super tricky and often poorly executed.

I'd like to see a biopic for Curtis Mayfield, if it could be produced adequately.

Which Black artists are most deserving of a biopic?
13289557, Where is the Coltrane??!
Posted by adg87, Tue Oct-02-18 01:43 PM
So overdue!
13289664, There's a Coltrane biopic on Netflix that's pretty good.
Posted by Airbreed, Wed Oct-03-18 07:32 AM
The Lee Morgan and Nina Simone biopics are also very good as well. All on Netflix.
13289666, Oh, cool!!
Posted by adg87, Wed Oct-03-18 08:20 AM
Is there a title I should be checking for?
13289719, Chasing Trane is a documentary.
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Wed Oct-03-18 11:05 AM
Unless you're talking about something else, I don't think there are any Coltrane biopics out there.
13289855, RE: Chasing Trane is a documentary.

Yup. I thought I let a Coltrane biopic slip past me, but alas, none exist!

The only Coltrane film I found on Netflix and via Google is the Chasing Coltrane doc.
13289555, Long overdue?

Who was wanting a BBD biopic? If you gotta crank out a cinematic universe of music biopics give us the real legends at least.
13289663, Long overdue meaning, more biopics about black musicians.

lol ...yeah, BBD wouldn't have been first on my list. But to see black musicians getting more exposure in the mini-series format is refreshing.

And I feel you on the legends. Not enough is being done for them. I though we had a winner with Don Cheadle's Miles Davis pic but to me it was just god awful.

They Call Me Morgan, Nina Simone and Coltrane are all very good but were limited to arthouse theaters and Netflix. Hopefully we'll see more.
13289552, So is this just a Marvel universe type situation now?

Ralph and Johnny spin-offs to follow?

Phase II kicks off with Boyz-II-Men?
13289558, Phase 3 ends with R.Kelly and the Infinity stones

He snaps and turns everyone into underage girls.
13289580, Phase II-Boyz II Men, ABC and Spiderman and Freeze (GOTG wild card)

13289578, I loved BBD but cmon.. how about the Debarge family?
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Oct-02-18 03:01 PM
They were off the hook

We already seen the BBD joint at the end of the NE movie

TV One actually has a Debarge biopic in the works. I thought it was coming out this fall.

They already released a biopic on Miki Howard that I still have yet to see.

And there was also the “Bobbi Kristina” film from last year that was not well received.

I’m afraid shit is gonna to be too low budget. Biopics arent’t TV One’s forte.

It’s called “All This Love: The Debarge Story.”
https://thegrio.com/2017/05/02/debarge-biopic-tv-one/

I can’t find anything on IMDB, which is not a good sign. Apparently, this was supposed to come out earlier this year. I hope the family is involved... Jermaine helped produce “The Jackson’s: An American Dream.”

The Debarge movie is now called "The Bobby Debarge Story." It's dropping this month, June 29.

I guess TV One changed direction.

Oh, and remember Russ Parr from the radio? Well, he's the director.

Big Boi is 'gone be in it...

I don't know, man.
13336302, Wasn’t dude who did the trailer for NE an OKP

Almost feels like he read this thread and changed someone’s mind.

I have no clue. I think TV One ran into a copyright/permissions issue with the Debarge siblings and Motown.

The fact that it’s a low-budget network just adds insult to energy.
13336327, That DeBarge bio looks AWFUL. The makeup, the wigs, the WIGS
Posted by CherNic, Sun Jun-02-19 09:43 AM
They could have just shown the Unsung episode on a loop
13289588, inbox me when the 3LW one is announced

13336328, why? BBD had one big album
Posted by DJR, Sun Jun-02-19 09:57 AM
It was just a little side project group with limited shelf life. 5 years later they were getting NE back together. They already did the New Edition stuff. There’s other more interesting stuff to do than a BBD bio.

Give us Jodeci. Or Boyz II Men. Tony Toni Tone. Guy. Blackstreet. Lots better options just in early 90s R&B alone.
