Crypto vs trad fintech
FB cannot risk crypto (yet) and with their numbers being put under a microscope they need a next Gen revenue stream. Partnership with banks while having the immediate affects you mentioned is a long play on a future FinTech integration with FB that they can profit off.
Incidentally there are already credit card and bank companies with customer service integrations but believe they want to be more entrenched than that.
