I watched the first season and the first few episodes but had to take a break.

Show is so good but gotdamn... I can't watch this right now with all that is going on in the world.

I didn't know what word to use to describe those who are legit crazy so I went with Scientology.

Anyway, like you said, the show is tough going. I think it's really really good but, damn, shit is heartbreaking to sit through.

Fun fact: the voice on the radio when Offred is in the car is Oprah.

nothing in any of the world's established religions is in any way, shape, or form, less crazy than Scientology.

(that's not a condemnation of all Christians, although we're not having a great 2018)

Yes Aunt Lydia deserves to be knifed slowly to death, but she ain't as bad as Waterford and his team of political sociopaths.

I thought it was because she knew shit was fucked up but I think it was tears of joy.

It may have started as a survival mechanism, but I think she now genuinely believes in her mission. People will rationalize anything if they're convinced it's "for the kids."

I try to place myself there...that life...that world so I can understand the mindset of these people like. is their life some form of survival of the fittest?

Fucking brilliant television..and arguably the most beautifully shot series I've ever seen. Every damn frame is literally art.

that couple being drowned was deep. I recall her conversation with Offred about love so I’m assuming that’s why she felt that way. “grab love where you can find it”

then Emily. Her new house assignment seems like it’s going to be weird.

considering how they've bent over backwards (torture/conditioning/bargaining/surgery/new placements) for two ladies (one of whom just came through months of radiation farming) who've caused way more trouble just because they can give birth.

they're going to let a teenager go out like that over a crush? not even give an aunt a shot at turning her around?

although I think many of the principles are misinterpretations, adultery would be a greater offense that required death. What was amazing to me is they were willing to die for their love. Part of me was sad for them...the other was like hell yeah lol

tough scene nonetheless...

last two episodes have been doing a lot with plot shenanigans.

She was a child born into the system and really believed in it until she got caught up with dude.

when nick told her to lie she was like I cant do that against God.

She was a real one...

unlike any of the others who would have lied to get out of the situation.

Im still trying to figure out the Colony stuff and what happened to make it so bad...lots of questions.

Pollution and industrialization got so bad that women (well we know now it's really the men) became infertile. That's one reason they were able to take things back to pre-technology phase for the most part. I think they were trying to trade handmaids for food/resources, and that's why the colonies where they send the "unwomen" are so toxic and deadly.

She can't go back to the Waterford house, he just had his wife's finger cut off what will he do to her? Aunt Lydia not sure if she is dead and the home owner that got them out sounds like he helps most maids get out

Maybe so they can continue to dwell in its misery.

When in reality a Season 3 devoted to Canadians planning and executing a heist of June's kid would've been a lot more riveting than more waiting around in Gilead to see who gets raped and when. They already established earlier in Season 2 that June knows leaving is the best path to getting her kid back, as she'll have the freedom to operate, she'll have allies, resources, her husband, etc. She tried it once! (Not to mention the idea that she'd leave her baby right now in favor of an impossible path to success also goes against much of what we know about June.)

But nah. They want more Offred suffering in Gilead. Make her pay, get her beaten, lots of rape, etc. The show has a lot of good stuff but fuck it's maddening in other areas.

i didn't like the last 10 minutes of either of the last two episodes, because they were more about setting up a transition to next season's shoots than trying to make sense of gilead.

but everything before those last scenes worked so ....

going back to the conversation in the kitchen with Fred...I think she will take him up on the offer but, somehow sabotage it to free more women...girls. She's always been a rebel.

She'll free Hannah in that way...

it is a short and worthwhile read. Some sections are somewhat nebulous, but the book overall does a great job of getting inside June's head. At the same time, the show does wonders in expanding on the book.

Since you mention the book, I do wonder if Margaret Atwood (sp?) has any say in how the story is being told for this Hulu version. I don't see her name in my brief skimming of the post-show credits, so I suppose I already have my answer there.

Don't remember in what capacity tho. I plan on reading the book. Almost copped it the other day at the bookstore but put it on pause. Not sure if I'll get a physical or go Kindle.

I’ll going to look into the author’s thoughts on the movie too...
