Don't one of these come out every few months, aren't they all supposed to be really good, then everyone moves on to the next one?

13265487, yup, but everyone is just trying to make it
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-11-18 02:39 PM
so they will continue to release these artist seeing who sticks and who doesn't

13265503, i feel like her and Alina Baraz are being pitted for the same spot rn.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Jun-11-18 03:33 PM
13265509, I hope not.
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jun-11-18 04:08 PM
I didn’t know who Alina was but I see she did that Urban Flora and this shit is crack.

It’s a shame I can’t remember names the days. If someone asked me to go to see Alina I would say no based off the name. Spotify has ruined me.

Alina seems like she is Jhene Aiko lite trying to break into slightly smoother soul space.. She had her success initially in the Chill EDM space (which is just r&b with harder beats and efx)... imo her direct comp is Snoh Aalegra

Jorja has always been straight forward hip hop adjacent soul like Corinne Bailey Rae with better social media and a tad bit "cooler"
13266345, ^^yup

Alina and Jorja aren't in the same lane.
Alina and Snoh though. Direct competition.
White euro, "strange" name.
13265593, British, biracial (looking) black woman, sings Lite Soul music, etc.

Seems like they (the industry, overall) keeps trying the same thing, with only minor variations. FKA Twigs is the only one I've heard that sounds drastically different, but it's not my thing, personally.

Corrine Baily Rae and Lianne La Havas have really nice voices, but they keep making that Lite Soul elevator music.
13265596, I really liked Corrine's first album
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-12-18 09:24 AM
but I guess it's like KPOP and all the artist looking like white asians.

I think the UK loves their lite women for obvious reasons.

Seems like a British thing no?

I mean you have Jorja, Raye, Mabel, Lianne, Ella Mai (is also British by way of Queens)
13265479, Thank you

13265504, Halfway thru and this i nice...
Posted by Marbles, Mon Jun-11-18 03:39 PM

It started off slow but I think it really picked up with "February 3rd."

13265512, It's cool.

It works well as a passive listen. Her voice sounds great. The production isn't very interesting and the songwriting leaves something to be desired in a lot of places. I've been following her for 2 years, since her first songs dropped on SoundCloud so I wanted/expected more out of this project. 3 of the songs were released 2 years ago and the fact that they're, to me, among the best tracks, is disappointing. After On My Mind (criminal it's not on here), I Am from the Black Panther soundtrack, and the strength of her EP I thought this project would be better than it is. I think she's talented enough to make something GREAT. This is just pretty good to me.
13265513, its solid

props for the music production too.
13265594, She crushed NPR Tiny Desk the other day too (vid)

13265595, I like the NPR live music better than the album

13266634, same here, really liked the Tiny Desk set
Posted by Playa_Politician, Thu Jun-14-18 07:04 PM
so i peeped the album, and it's good but she killed the live performance. I tend to think that way about a lot of the Tiny Desk performances.
13265866, Her voice is quite obviously very heavily influenced by Amy which
Posted by mellowboogie, Tue Jun-12-18 05:52 PM
probably put me off a little at first but she's growing on me. I just LOVE blue lights
13266272, I hear Nelly Furtado
Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jun-13-18 02:48 PM
