Avengers 1 (introduces the team as a whole)
Avengers 2 (introduces Vision, more info on Infinity Stones)
GOTG 1 (introduces the Guardians, more Infinity Stone info, more Thanos)
Civil War (Bucky, Black Panther, Spidey, why they broke up)
Ragnarok (Doc Strange cameo, where have Hulk & Thor been, sets the start of IW)
That should give most people 95% of who these characters are and why they do what they do without the majority of the solo movies. Yes, you can go in blind never having seen any of these movies and having a basic knowledge of half the characters and figure it out, but I think watching those 5 at some point should lay out most of what the non comic book/movie fan would need.
