I think it’s more of a big deal now because we know so much about folks dating lives but for me the first time I really heard the record scratch was Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson. I think it was because she was dark skinned and had dreads. I just expected her to be with a Black dude.

But when I say selling blackness and dating white I’m talking about Van Jones, Gates, Belafonte, etc. Folks who lecture on Blackness but go home to whiteness.
