My thing is America works because of self-denial.

IE, America feels like it got here based strictly off hard work when in reality they slaughtered a native population for fantastic natural resources, built up a country based off chattel slavery, and as we moved from the industrial era thrives off a mix of neo-colonialism and abuse of the current working/middle class.
