I would like to believe this was thoughtless oversight. At worst I think it may have been a rogue art director or photographer or something. Not that I put it above white people, I just don't see any upside or reason why H&M would purposely create a racist AF ad.

I know I am going to get clowned for this but, continuing to be the optimist, I also think there is an argument that can be made that it is arguably progress that young black people (and young white people) don't make that visceral connection between black people and monkeys as racist symbol for black people the way older generations do.

isn't the goal to reach a point where there is actually nothing wrong with a little black kid wearing that t-shirt (or me eating watermelon at the company picnic)?

Not saying we are there yet at all, I'm just sayin.
