Y'all on board? Apparently she got the shondaland-abc style deal. I think fox? gave one to mara brock akil too, that's why she left bet/being Mary jane

https://shadowandact.com/hbo-picks-up-two-new-issa-rae-shows-bisexual-black-man-dating-comedy-him-or-her-affluent-windsor-hills-black-teen-drama

Him Or Her is EP'd by Rae and former The Daily Show writer, Travon Free. It's description: "The single-camera half-hour chronicles the dating life of a bisexual black man and the distinctly different worlds and relationships he finds himself in." Free is also writing the comedy series.

).

Sweet Life is "a coming of age tale of the well-heeled teens growing up" in the "Black Beverly Hills" neighborhood of Windsor Hills. Rae co-created the series with Scandal producer Raamla Mohamed. They will both EP and write the script. If you remember correctly, this logline has a striking resemblance to the 'black 90210' concept she pitched in a video series with The New Yorker.

Along with a third season of Insecure at HBO, she's also producing another 1990s-set, LA drama at the network as well.

13221537, if its well written and entertaining, why does the target audience matter?

you've never enjoyed anything that didn't relate to your demo?

13221673, Matters to the extent of you can only stand to watch it for a short time

until it becomes not so good anymore....or not entertaining to you.

>you've never enjoyed anything that didn't relate to your
>demo?

TV series are a little different for me than movies or music I guess. A movie, you watch it, digest it, and you're done with it in an hour or two. Same with music. The entire plot/story/message is laid out short and sweet for the most part.

TV series are much more drawn out by design. You kind of build a relationship with them. I don't usually enjoy a T.V. series that doesn't draw me all the way in with something that I care to find out what happens next. I see these are more TV series than sitcoms. Sitcoms are kind of one-offs IMO that I don't necessarily have to see in progression in order to consume and enjoy.

Insecure didn't hold my interest beyond a few episodes. It was a good show, just not for me.

I'm def. going to see what this new stuff she's coming out with has to offer, but I fear it's going to have the same result that Insecure did.

Sorry, that's the best way I can explain it.

>just curious cuz i see alotta people say things like this...no
>snark
none taken.

13221659, This is excellent! Only thing is, there was actually a 'black 90210' show
Posted by kfine, Thu Dec-21-17 02:37 AM

a while back.. "Baldwin Hills" I think?

It was a reality series too, not scripted.

Not that that has anything to do with how Sweet Life will be received.

Just weird to me when I hear talk as though there never was one, lol
13221674, but 90210 was scripted. and was not a reality show. so.......

13221729, LOL, that was legit TEN whole years ago. And yep, it was reality

(semi-scripted)....so it's space. They make a trillion shows based in their White areas....we can get two for ours, right?
13221778, something based on "Our Kind of People" is also in development

13222028, 50 cent signs extension to bring 3 more shows to starz
Posted by Riot, Sat Dec-23-17 10:25 AM
http://www.blackenterprise.com/50-cent-new-business-deal-starz/

Jackson, who graced the cover of Black Enterprise in January 2011, recently inked an eight-figure deal with Starz to continue creating original content for the premium cable network, reports TMZ. The new agreement extends the two-year contract he signed with Starz back in September 2015 to 2019.
“Continuing my partnership with Starz and Lionsgate is important to me,” Jackson told Deadline on Wednesday. “I have a personal connection to each project I bring to them. I’m able to deliver shows that have unique stories that can be told on premium cable television.”

The deal allows the 42-year-old rap mogul to continue producing hit shows like Power, the most-watched franchise on Starz, as well as new programming.

Through his G-Unit Film & Television company, he will develop three new projects, including Black Mafia Family, which is based on the story of real-life drug kingpin Demetrius ‘Big Meech’ Flenory, and the action-packed sci-fi series Tomorrow, Today. Details about a third project have yet to be released.
13222121, That BMF show is going to be big....
Posted by rorschach, Sun Dec-24-17 03:20 AM
I always wondered if someone would make a Big Meech movie (on some Goodfellas shit)...especially after the success of American Gangster.
