13218259, Los Angeles is on fire.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Dec-06-17 11:56 AM
It's been up in Ventura, Simi, etc... but now it's across from the Getty, burning homes in Bel-Air. And the winds will be rough til Friday. Scary, scary stuff.

Stay safe out there, gang.
13218261, Was there a bad drought out there this year?
Posted by flipnile, Wed Dec-06-17 11:59 AM
Why so much fire?
13218507, We had a good amount of rain this year
Posted by Mynoriti, Thu Dec-07-17 12:46 AM
but it was all at the beginning of the year

fall never really kicked in. It was 90 for thanksgiving
13218684, Yeah, I remember the spring desert bloom from all the rain earlier
Posted by flipnile, Thu Dec-07-17 02:42 PM
Didn't know it had basically been dry since then.
13218264, the santa annas arent going to help the situation.....
Posted by kittyswift, Wed Dec-06-17 12:04 PM
just about all of the northbay was on fire...

it didnt occur to me how devastating and how much impact that shit was until all i could smell was smoke in the air....

and then the thought that entire blocks of homes on multiple city streets were on fire...

good luck

AND IT AINT EVEN HOT!

yea the skirball fire is crazy thought because all that area is money money money money
13218270, wonder if it's a given to have disaster / fire insurance up there
Posted by T Reynolds, Wed Dec-06-17 12:16 PM
or what percentage of folks are covered.
13218279, usually it is
Posted by RobOne4, Wed Dec-06-17 12:40 PM
when I bought my house it said we lived near a flood zone. Not in but NEAR. If we had lived in we would have had to buy extra flood insurance before our loan would have been approved.
13218310, Yeah, I've had some of my clients cancel due to evacuation fears.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Dec-06-17 02:05 PM
I'm sure they're donating everything they can to get more helicopters over there before the winds pick up again.
13218272, How do these things even start?

Posted by CyrenYoung, Wed Dec-06-17 04:46 PM
..even if they don't post regularly.

i know facebook's algorithm has a check-in feature for emergencies, so hopefully that helps.

13218435, I'm in Brentwood below Sunset. No evacuation call yet.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Dec-06-17 06:41 PM
The evacuation zone is only about a mile north of us though. We've got go bags and we're ready if shit hits the fan.

Would *really* prefer to not have to evacuate, obviously. But better to evacuate than to be, y'know, burned. Probably not going to sleep much the next couple of days.
13218444, All good this way, not that I live in the area
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Wed Dec-06-17 07:00 PM
But my wife works right up the street from Longos place. She said the air quality is terrible and they might have to close up shop.
13218449, not in an area under threat
Posted by Mynoriti, Wed Dec-06-17 07:11 PM
this is pretty insane though.
13218454, The Valley checking in...I'm surrounded by fire!

My office is in Valencia...Rye Fire
I live in Northridge, red circle in the image...bookended by the Creek and Thomas fires
...now the Brentwood fire has me boxed in to the south...

Office closed yesterday...but we're open today...air is pretty good up here

...but in the valley and west LA looks like a constant dust storm...

IDK, I'm usually dismissive of these things...but after the Burbank fire not too long ago...feels like they get closer and closer

I'll survive though
13218467, hood advantages!! i live near SC...im good

But there was an evacuation order near my apartment. (La Cresenta - north Glendale)

I was talking with my sister about packing an emergency bag tonight just to be safe.

13218679, don't astralblak stay in the 818? where you at homie?

Posted by Ryan M, Fri Dec-08-17 05:46 PM
I'm also out of town so it's kinda a good time to not be in LA. It is insane though. I grew up in Simi so I'm used to fire season (though I've been lucky to never be in a dangerous area) but this is next level.

This is getting crazy, in all my life of being a Californian I haven't seen a series of fires this bad ever. 2007 was bad, but this is insane.
13218683, Fire shut down the 405. This is some Blade Runner shit.

13219135, A family that is friends of ours plus this guy was coach to my son last season
Posted by RobOne4, Sat Dec-09-17 08:28 AM
Their house was about 200 yard from burning up in Murrieta. They have a beautiful home. Found the piece of land up on a hill and built from scratch. The thing is there is a lot of brush around his home. Especially since the nearest neighbor to the left or right is about 500 yards away. But this guy has a small excavator and he gives himself a 100 foot fire break twice a year. I just got in touch with him via text he said the minute the fire started he was on that excavator and was extending that break as far as he could. The fire never reached it. But it might have saved his home if it did. He said from the fire starting to mandatory evacuation he had maybe 12 hours notice. He is retired police and his wife is a cop right now. So they had plenty of friends helping them get out essentials. Drove past their house today after the road reopened and could not believe how close that fire got to them.
