13213803, Lena Dunham is trash
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Nov-18-17 09:41 AM
We should believe every woman who says eh was raped... unless it’s a friend of mine.

https://thegrapevine.theroot.com/lena-dunham-is-trash-1820565772

In today’s “some white feminists ain’t shit” news, Lena Dunham has proven once again that she’s a hot flaming garbage barge of trash, after defending a male writer on her defunct HBO series Girls, when it came to accusations that he raped a 17-year-old actress.

Girls writer Murray Miller has been accused of sexual assault by actress Aurora Perrineau. The incident allegedly occurred when the actress was 17-years-old.

Aurora, the 23-year-old daughter of Lost star Harold Perrineau, stated in a polygraph (that she passed) obtained by The Wrap that she met the writer when she was out with friends drinking and informed him she was underage. Miller then became drunk, and asked her friends for a ride home. Once they arrived to his house, everyone got out and went inside, but she only followed because she “felt like I had to go along with everyone else.”

“He was flirting with me. I told him repeatedly that I was 17 years old,” she said in the statement.

“At some point I woke up in Murray’s bed naked. He was on top of me having sexual intercourse with me. At no time did I consent to any sexual contact with Murray,” she said.

Aurora Perrineau filed a report on the alleged incident on Friday with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Now here’s where “feminism is for white women” comes into play. Just recently, Dunham said that all women should be believed when it comes to accusations of rape. But apparently that doesn’t apply to women who have allegedly been raped by her friends.

Dunham and Girls showrunner Jenni Konner issued a statement defending Miller:

During the windfall of deeply necessary accusations over the last few months in Hollywood, we have been thrilled to see so many women’s voices heard and dark experiences in this industry justified. It’s a hugely important time of change and, like every feminist in Hollywood and beyond, we celebrate. But during every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets. We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller. While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year. It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue.

nevermind her drinking underage, exactly what questions were passed on the polygraph?

what insider knowledge do they have? knowledge of his whereabouts that night 6 years ago? erectile dysfunction? add to the mix the accuser being half-black, this looks awful for Lena Dunham
13213812, I should be reading about Harold Perrineau's assault charges soon

I was STILL like, well there is no way that she would issue a statement defending a WHITE man accused of assault a WOMAN OF COLOR. Not incredulous that she would think that, but incredulous that she would not see the obvious optics of that.

Then I googled everyone involved......

13213839, the intstinct is understandable.

especially if you believe you know someone well enough that you feel confident in their innocence.

but there are plenty of other accused rapists with friends and family who think they're a great guy who would never do that in a million years.

you don't get to be the outspoken person who says women never ever lie about rape, and then start playing percentages when it suits you.

Lena Dunham apologizes after defending 'Girls' writer accused of sexual assault

BY BRANDON CARTER - 11/18/17

Lena Dunham apologizes after defending 'Girls' writer accused of sexual assault

Former “Girls” star Lena Dunham has issued a statement apologizing after she defended a former “Girls” writer who was accused of sexual assault.

“I never thought I would issue a statement publicly supporting someone accused of sexual assault, but I naively believed it was important to share my perspective on my friend’s situation as it has transpired behind the scenes over the last few months,” Dunham said in a statement.

“I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement, and I am so sorry,” she continued.

Dunham said that every woman who has spoken out about their experiences with sexual harassment and assault “deserves to be heard, fully and completely,” and said her relationship to the writer “should not be part of the calculation anyone makes when” examining those allegations.

“We apologize to any women who have been disappointed,” Dunham said.

The Wrap reported this week that actress Aurora Perrineau had filed a complaint with Los Angeles police against “Girls” writer Murray Miller, accusing him of raping her in 2012 when she was 17 years old.

After the report, Dunham and “Girls” writer Jenni Konner defended Miller in a statement released Friday.

“During the windfall of deeply necessary accusations over the last few months in Hollywood, we have been thrilled to see so many women’s voices heard and dark experiences in this industry justified. It’s a hugely important time of change and, like every feminist in Hollywood and beyond, we celebrate,” the two wrote, according to Entertainment Weekly. “But during every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets.”

“We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller. While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3% of assault cases that are misreported every year. It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue.”

A lawyer for Miller also denied the allegations, calling them “outrageous.”

Dunham campaigned for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election and has been a vocal critic of President Trump.

13213905, White women created feminism.
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Sun Nov-19-17 12:07 PM
This kind of behavior is very congruent
with its origins, considering that some
of the first ones insisted that the
enfranchisement of women would strengthen
white supremacy.
The question is whether or not any other
group of women can really be feminists,
since feminism at it's core is the feminine
branch of white patriarchial/supremacist ideals.
Hence the "black men are trash" crowd is
simply proving they're just as committed
to the cause as white women... especially
when we remember that early white feminists
were white women fighting for the right to vote
over the "inferior" and "rapist" black male as
they said things like "if it needs lynching to
protect woman’s dearest possession from the
ravening human beasts—-then I say lynch, a
thousand times a week if necessary.” ("ravening
human beasts" refers to Black men)

In light of these facts, what do you *really*
mean when you say you don't know if white women
can be or are feminists? I'm guessing you're
talking about the alleged principles of feminism
that exclude all exercised white supremacist tenets?
13213915, Shaharazad Ali has been speaking on this for almost 40 years
Posted by Garhart Poppwell, Sun Nov-19-17 01:40 PM
feminism isn't for anybody but white women, and always has been. Why people are surprised qhen feminists do shit like this is beyond me.
13214006, Yep
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Nov-20-17 09:45 AM
13214016, If you think feminism is one specific thing, perhaps
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Nov-20-17 10:18 AM
but that's silly, imo. Women (and others) have been fighting for women's rights for as long as there's been patriarchy. You should look into "protofeminism" and consider why someone like Harriet Tubman is considered a feminist. Then you should look at things like 3rd Wave feminism
13214023, maybe give it a different name when racist white women engage in it
Posted by Atillah Moor, Mon Nov-20-17 10:28 AM
13214026, I disagree with labeling someone feminist if they didn't label themselves
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Nov-20-17 10:30 AM
that way.

Finding historical figures who may have expressed
certain ideas consistent with one's philosophy
and then labeling them with your entire philosophy
lacks integrity imo.

>Women (and others) have been fighting
>for women's rights for as long as there's been patriarchy.

Yeah I know. That's not what I'm talking about tho.

>You should look into "protofeminism" and consider why someone like
>Harriet Tubman is considered a feminist. Then you should look
>at things like 3rd Wave feminism

I have. See subject line tho.
"Considered" a feminist. Please note the meaning
of the word "considered" and who is doing the
considering and why. Reading someone as a
feminist and them identifying as such are different
things. Racist white women used the name and tainted
it with their speech and actions.
Better to use another one.

13214052, For clarification's sake
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Nov-20-17 10:51 AM
I also think it's strange that Harriet and others a considered feminists when they wouldn't have used those terms to describe themselves, but you cannot deny that her/their views and actions, as seen through a modern lens would be viewed as feminist.
13214062, Folks were trying to get free
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Nov-20-17 11:09 AM
I don’t think it had anything to do with feminism.
13214073, You should look into what Harriet was about
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Nov-20-17 11:33 AM
Yes, folks was trying to get free. And Harriet was supremely concerned with the rights of Black women. Today, her thinking would be viewed as very intersectionally feminist.

Again, I question imposing the label on her, but if we were to anachronistically view her thoughts through our lens...
13214022, I mean in the sense that if feminism is protecting all women's rights
Posted by Atillah Moor, Mon Nov-20-17 10:26 AM
then most white women who are feminists can't be
13213916, I can get with them not throwing their friend under the bus

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lenny-letter-writer-accuses-lena-dunham-hipster-racism-exits-publication-1060039

“Back in college, I avoided those people like the plague because of their well-known racism," she wrote. "I'd call their strain 'hipster racism,' which typically uses sarcasm as a cover, and in the end, it looks a lot like gaslighting — 'It's just a joke. Why are you overreacting?' is a comment response to these kinds of statements."

She claimed that one female "in Lena's circles" was "known to use the N word in conversation in order to be provocative, and if she was ever called on it, she would say 'it's just a joke.' I was often in the same room with her, but I never spoke to her, only watched her from far in anxiety and horror."

Clemmons said she's decided to leave Lenny Letter after Dunham expressed her support for Girls writer Murray Miller, who was accused of sexual assault by actress Aurora Perrineau.

Like with old girls story about how Lena's friend loved the n-word. As opposed to calling said friend out in her mind she was like 'im progressive, all my friends are progressive, i don't have those types of friends, Julliette says its just a joke, so it must be true
