I don't read the NYT religiously but from what I *have* read I've never gotten the impression that they're trying to give us false hope that any kind of smoking-gun bombshell is on the horizon.

Hm no - that's just patently false. Outside of LAbeathustla's unwavering certainty that THEY'RE ALL GOIN DOWN IN FLAMEZZZZZ this thread has primarily continued to thrive because over the course of almost 2 years there's been a steady stream of fascinating and truly unbelievable information/indictments/revelations/etc. Again, outside of LAbeathustla, I don't think (m)any of us in this thread have made any kind of "it's coming !! The smoking gun is coming you just wait!" declarations. Most of us don't believe that. So I'm not entirely sure where you got that impression from.
