they are willing to abandon their moral/spiritual foundation, their previous political principles, their own health/well-being, basic reality, etc just to allow this man to cling to power.

the real question is why the media isnt explicitly taking the majority of white americans to task for supporting a compulsive liar, criminal, idiot, and tyrant. the media has essentially created a new standard for trump where anything that works for the base is a political win and thus worthy of its own merit on that sole standard alone.
