I think that's a symptom of progressives' general ideology to a certain extent. In other words a lot of the platforms that progressives push have to do with a general optimism, and a general belief that all people are inherently good and trustworthy. So they trust that if they just keep doing the right thing and pushing the "right" platforms/ideas, eventually the chips will fall into their rightful places.

But conservatives prove that even if they are in the minority, they're willing to work harder, and work OVERTIME to achieve their white supremacist, bigoted, outdated bullshit goals and the left/progressives almost stubbornly refuse to try and keep up. Hence why we keep spinning our wheels in terms of progress.

I'm not necessarily saying that the left needs to go dive headfirst into the dirt with Repugs, quite the opposite. Just that we need to be far better at, as you rightfully said, seeing the big picture, being strategic, supporting/backing the folks who *can* win even if we may not fully agree with them, and not stepping on our own toes.
