We're just not used to a high level politician acting this way.
To me, he sounds pretty calculating in these "crazy" episodes. He repeats the same lies over and over, and the people he is trying to reach eat it up.
If you check conservative spaces, they are talking about how the IG report completely exhonerates him in Mueller's investigation (it doesn't even touch on that).
They're talking about how the Democrats are the cause of the child separation issue (it's not, it a new Homeland security policy).
He sets the narrative for his people. You and me are not the audience
