13173985, 50 cent: "4:44 is golf course music.. too smart for niggas"

http://variety.com/2017/music/news/50-cent-slams-jay-zs-album-1202488199/

I thought the s— was aight, you know what I’m sayin’? I liked the s—. But I’ma keep it 100: The s— was a little, the s— was too smart. I felt like I was supposed to be wearing glasses and s—, and tie a f—ing sweater around my waist. It was like Ivy League s—.”

“I ain’t gon’ hold you up,” 50 Cent added. “Some of that s— was like golf course music.”.

“I’mma tell you the truth: N—as hot out here,” he went on. “They don’t wanna hear that sh—. They just wanna have a good time. F— that. You can’t be the best rapper at 47, because the new n—as is here,” 50 Cent said.

13173987, Is it a "slam" or just perspective from another middle aged..
Posted by Creole, Mon Jul-17-17 08:07 AM
rapper who is the Hood Representative? 50 still walking around in oversized fitted caps. Can we really take his word on anything?

To me, he's just a funny guy.
13173990, both
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jul-17-17 08:09 AM
13174000, I ain't take it like that but I can see how one could...
Posted by Creole, Mon Jul-17-17 08:26 AM
50 should really consider that he's not had a dope album since his debut. So, IMO, his word on albums is just hot breff.
13174002, I mean, it's not the typical Jay club album
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jul-17-17 08:29 AM
so I get the criticism.

but I also think it's bullshit to act like all the young kids care about is getting high and mumbling to melodies.

13174020, YUP! My 25 year old son and 18 year old daughter love...

>but I also think it's bullshit to act like all the young kids
>care about is getting high and mumbling to melodies.

4:44.

In essence, 50 is talking to or referring to, in part, younger versions of his knuckleheaded ass. There are some old head bammas who ain't tryna hear it either. Those of the pink linen suit and matching fake gators crowd.
13173999, Ehh, he's got a point but it's a redundant one
Posted by BigReg, Mon Jul-17-17 08:25 AM
He couldda easily had Just Blaze throw in a 'Roc Boys' type sample banger and made it a single. Obviously he was trying to go for a low key album; he couldda easily had a Metro Boomin beat with Carti singing the hook,

The thing is in his own real life, 50 Cent has been pulling similar 'back to basics' moves. After G-Unit collapsed he was doing some really solid mixtape work strictly in the 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin' vein that was some of the best he's ever done...its the periodic 'This is gonna put me back on Billboard' modern sounding releases that sounded like shit.

13174007, his brand is Power right now
Posted by atruhead, Mon Jul-17-17 08:35 AM
I know he's an actor on it, and if Im not mistaken he's an executive behind the show

so of course he's going to downplay progressiveness because I've seen less than two episodes of the show and I felt my brain cells dying
13174022, Power is an ill show. Whatchoo tawnbout?
Posted by Creole, Mon Jul-17-17 08:51 AM

The show that he's standing behind is all about progression from the perspective of a street dude. So, I am not sure he's necessarily downplaying it more so than he is providing a commentary from the perspective of young, dumb, don't care to know nothing more than what they're used to adults.
13174033, again, I've seen less than two episodes
Posted by atruhead, Mon Jul-17-17 09:07 AM
but the gist I picked up was sex, violence and nothing resembling intelligence
13174038, It's deeper than that
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jul-17-17 09:15 AM
Definitely has sex and violence but there are some great layers to that show.

13174057, Im sure you think so
Posted by atruhead, Mon Jul-17-17 09:42 AM
13174074, Yes, I have seen more than 1.5 episodes

13174024, Viacom's Little Brother comments with a Black face
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Mon Jul-17-17 08:55 AM
Plus 50 is an investor and business man saying this,
so it's extra ridiculous for him to pretend that
it's over his own head.

Of course he's playing a role and trying to sound
like he reps the streets, but the act is outdated.

I personally find it rather egregious that he'd
promote this idea that Black people are too dumb
to enjoy anything outside of a limited scope of
subject matter, but I'm not surprised, because
he's been insulting Black people like this for
a long time now.

13174043, He has an album dropping soon and is trying to get the youth
Posted by legsdiamond, Mon Jul-17-17 09:25 AM
Plus he is a hater.
13174798, nobody with 50's net worth is repping the streets
Posted by SooperEgo, Tue Jul-18-17 11:57 AM
not for real anyway
13174809, Which is one of the reasons the act is outdated
Posted by Boogie Stimuli, Tue Jul-18-17 12:07 PM
13174039, too smart? Gotdamn, this is officially fucking bizarro world.

lol, forreal though Jay's album is not deep at all.

I hate that this is what passes for "woke" or deep, when 47 year old Jay hasn't hit on concepts that 20 year old Pac already had figured out.

The mistake is that everyone can make it with Jay's paradigm. Buy the block or buy a Basquiat is NOT empowering. If Jay bought Marcy or Dumbo housing and then sold it for $25 million that STILL displaces poor people. Yes, he is Black, and personally would be rich, but the hood doesn't come up.

A better model for Black excellence would be saying "hey guys, pool your tax money and buy YOUR apartment buildings. Use that asset to build equity and fund other businesses so all of yall can come up".

Jay's whole steez has been "live vicariously through my success, and we all can win".

And some of the writing was just Lay-Z. NO ID did his thing.

"Do as thou wilst" a quote from a shirt Jay has worn is from Allestier Crowley a self proclaimed magician and high level member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry (if I'm not mistaken). He was also referred to in one publication as the most evil man in the world. His work as influenced various occlult and satanic practitioners.

So that's a little weird but
13174303, LOL @ anyone in here saying Power is a good show.
